That’s what HFA is: sometimes they don’t know what they are saying really.

I think he understood exactly what he was saying. Would he really do it? Hopefully not

I honestly don’t think so. Either he is bad at controlling his impulses (a typical kid could think that but not say it out loud) or he doesn’t quite understand the seriousness of saying it out loud.
If he hasn’t been violent, he needs a really good talk about how these things are really too serious to say out loud. We all have horrible thoughts, we just learned to control them (some people don’t even admit to themselves they have thoughts and feelings that are not acceptable).

It is not typical to even think about raping someone.

First, you probably aren’t a man or a woman with those fantasies. Second, the student probably doesn’t really know what he is talking about.

Right, and u think most people typically don't have those fantasies. Particularly 12 year olds.

He doesn’t know what he is saying. Like a nerd saying “I’ll beat the crap out of you”.

You aren’t his psychiatrist. You have no idea whatsoever whether he knew what he was saying or not.

Do you not see the difference between saying that to a peer and saying it to a teacher?

I do, but he doesn’t

Curious, how can you be so sure?

They aren’t sure. They have no idea, have an agenda and are making it up.

Now, because it’s an anonymous message board, they’ll claim to actually know this particular child or be his doctor or relative. LOL

If he is threatening teachers like this he should be in a special school. Teachers should be able to work in a safe environment.

For the PP saying essentially let it go because he has autism... where does that end? I guess once the kid actually acts on it, or threatens someone who actually matters (apparently not teachers), or is an adult who will face real consequences?
A one day suspension is nothing and sends a message that this is okay, not a big deal, carry on with such behavior.

+1, but other students deserve a safe environment too. He knows what he is saying.

He needs to be mature enough by 18 to not say it
Not saying it’s ok. But it’s part of growing up for a kid who is not NT

One doesn’t need to be his psychiatrist to know that 12 yo kids don’t mean it in an adult sense

So it’s cool for all the other kids in the hall to see a kid yell to a teacher that he’s going to rape her and only get one day’s suspension?

Yes...because he's autistic

What school system OP?

JFC. I can’t believe the people on here making excuses for this behavior. I don’t care if the kid is autistic or not. You don’t threaten violence, especially rape on a teacher. In no way, shape, or form is that right.

I bet he knows exactly what that means too. Saying I’m going to hold you down and rape you means using force and against one’s will. Simple enough for any 12 year old to understand and know irregardless of understanding or not what the word rape means. And a 12 year old would know what that means.

People defending this kid is exactly why public education is a mess right now with out of control behaviors. If this kid can’t function appropriately in a typical school, he needs to be taken out and put in the appropriate school serving kids like this.

Anonymous wrote:Yeah one of my least favorite teaching moments was when one of my kinder boys (also autistic) told a female classmate that he was going to rape her. (Because she didn’t share a crayon)

Then the parents of the boy flipped out on ME when I had to tell them what happened. I was a very new teacher and only later realized they were lashing out because they were very embarrassed.

Which is why it really helps when an adult says: no worries, kids are still developing their filters, they have to get a punishment but don’t worry about it, we don’t consider your kid a budding criminal

Umm no. The fact that a kindergartner is even talking about rape at all, much less threatening a fellow classmate with it, is incredibly worrying and should probably launch a cps investigation into the child’s home life.
