Where do the A-/B+ students go?

3.7 UW is literally an A- Not exactly a B+ student!

OP, your child could go to JMU, George Mason, VCU, Penn State.
4.0 is a bit low for VT. Last year, the average GPA for engineering was 4.14. This year from the posts, the GPA sounds crazing high.

+1. Especially if you are full pay.

Tulane, Wake Forest, SMU, Bucknell, U Miami, Syracuse

Wake Forest doesn’t belong in this group, their acceptance rate is going to be around 15 percent this year.

Then neither does Tulane, which had a 9% admit rate last year.

Did you son only apply to one school? Are there other application elsewhere still pending?

That’s because Tulane took all but 100 kids through ED and EA. ED acceptance rate is probably over 50%. RD was under 1%. They are totally gaming the system to look more selective. Even worse than Northeastern.

I lean it more towards a B+ because she had a downward grade trend from 9th-11th, ending with half As, half Bs in junior year.

Oh come on! That could only come from someone grade-obsessed. Like they are miles apart

Disagree. A B+ is a 3.3. In terms of college admissions, a 3.3 and a 3.7 are indeed miles apart.

Saying her B+ student was admitted to Mt Holyoke is disingenuous and misleading. Others who have kids with true B+ averages might misunderstand their kids’ likelihood of admission to various schools. Overshooting with no true safeties is a major problem right now.

Agree that 3.3 and 3.7 are not the same, but MH is an easier admit than you realize, too. Much easier than the other 7 sisters.

1. OP asked about A-/B+ so nitpicking about a 3.7 is silly.
2. DD was definitely on the low end from our school getting in with a 3.7, and especially given that her junior year was her worst year of HS, which is why I think she'd be seen more as a B+ student.
3. Very strong ECs in her academic area plus interest in a very specific program at MHC probably helped.
4. Being on the low end of the pool showed in aid, her merit award did not come in where we needed so it fell off the list but was happy with her options from the rest of the acceptances.

4.14 weighted though so keep that in mind please. kids with low UW GPAs from rigorous private high schools get in with no problems.

Except at our school, kids with B+ averages get into Tulane but not Wake.

None of them are particularly hard to get into other than Barnard.

My kid had her exact GPA (3.7 UW, 4.3 weighted) and got into MHC. She stated the GPA. People can do the math themselves.
