Awe, the frustration that "build back better" and company are causing. Suck it up buttercup, you most likely voted for this if you're on this board. Wasn't it Obama who said utility bills would sky rocket for things to change, oh well.

Suck it up Buttercup Republicans are going to make everything go up 30% try again.

What? look who's in office right now? How praytell are you trying to blame republicans for this?

You are all insane, I don’t think gas prices are even up.

I don't know where OP is located, but most natural gas utilities requested and were approved for significant rate hikes last year. Rates went up 30% in my area. I had significant weatherization done last summer. My usage is down but my bill is the same due to higher rates.

You can call them and ask for your meter to be reread and to make sure there isn’t a potential leak. But I can say is that you’re not alone. This has been a common complaint on NextDoor with Washington Gas.

+1, ours is slightly bigger but we keep thermostat at 68 (and have a gas dryer and gas water heater in addition to the gas furnace) and our bills haven't exceeded $265 this year.

Why do people think that new windows makes their house more efficient.

That's what window salesmen tell them.

Yep, agree with this ... it's more efficient because it's newer even though it's bigger, this is my DS over and over. Always, and I mean always, starting our conversations these days with the rising cost of her housing expenses.

If your gas usage (usage, not your bill amount) has actually more than doubled since installing new windows and furnace/water, then you've got a problem. It's a leak or a billing problem. Or you got some really bad windows and and a terrible furnace installation. I know that you said they already checked for leaks, but Wash Gas is pretty incompetent. I've called them for several leaks on my street (where you can clearly smell gas at specific locations) and they come out and say it is fixed (and never is).

NP. "New windows" doesn't mean diddly squat. The type and quality of windows matters way more than the age.

But I'd be you also think new construction is better and more efficient because it's new.

Still waiting for OP to come back with their Sq Ft before we decide its all evil government fault. You buy a 5000 sq ft house you need to understand it will cost a LOT to heat and condition. It should not be inexpensive to do so.

Interested in her size house. We have ~5000 sq. ft, 4 levels, 14 years old.

Our bill last month was $324.

3 people home most of the day every day, (2 WFH and 1 home for winter term from college) so heating on all levels everyday of the week, 68-70 during the day/evening and 59 over night, 3 hot showers, laundry, dishes, etc. and gas fireplaces.

It's a meter problem. Or a troll.

I would assume you may have a gas leak and act accordingly OP.

My point was it is all meaningless unless the windows are installed properly and 90% of the people installing windows don’t know how to properly install windows. And they know ZERO about building science.
