new boiler, new h20 heater.
these fxxxxkers are just screwing us it hasnt even been cold we dont even take hot showers wtf. what can we do? |
| How big is the house? |
| Your new boiler and new hot water heater might need servicing. Or maybe they're just gas guzzlers. |
| that's pretty high. how big is your house? |
|
How big is your house? Mine is 2000 sq ft and I just got a gas bill for over $250. House is always at 68. The distribution and supply charges have gone up exponentially from last year, where we had higher usage and lower bills.
You can call them and ask for your meter to be reread and to make sure there isn’t a potential leak. But I can say is that you’re not alone. This has been a common complaint on NextDoor with Washington Gas. |

That is insane - I just checked and my bill for the month of January was $164. We keep the house at 64 at night and 67 during the day. 2600 sq ft house.
Electric bill was $165. So total for January was $329. Not too bad although way higher than it used to be! |
IDK but I take hot showers daily plus monthly I have 1-3 45min showers to release hormonal plus tension headaches- trying to find a way to get rid of them through other means but until then that's what helps. We keep the house at 68 when its sunny and 70-72 when its cloudy. 66-68 during the night. We run the dishwasher every night, on weekends sometimes 2x day. If its above 58 degrees outside and sunny, I open the windows to let fresh air in. 2150 sq foot house. 2 adults and 1 kid. Gas tankless water heater set to 125 and high-efficiency gas heater. Windows from the 1990s or before and our house is drafty with insufficient attic insulation. The gas bill due end of this month is 173. Electric due mid-month 169. Something is off unless your house is 2x the size of ours, which is possible. |
Awe, the frustration that "build back better" and company are causing. Suck it up buttercup, you most likely voted for this if you're on this board. Wasn't it Obama who said utility bills would sky rocket for things to change, oh well. |
By this, I'll assume you're talking about our lovely government, and you'd be right. Happy Valentine's Day! |
Still waiting for OP to come back with their Sq Ft before we decide its all evil government fault. You buy a 5000 sq ft house you need to understand it will cost a LOT to heat and condition. It should not be inexpensive to do so. |
Suck it up Buttercup Republicans are going to make everything go up 30% try again. |
| Maybe your hot water heater is set too high? But that bill is absurd. You should fight it! |
NP. Your anger is misplaced. If it were up to republicans there would be more oil and gas drilling. Oil and gas (and even coal) is cheaper than wind/solar that they keep building all over the place. |
| Did they actually do a meter read? I once moved into a studio after living in a big place with 2 roommates. My gas bill the first month was double the entire bill for the previous place. I guess the gas company estimated I kept the place at 200 degrees and ran the hot water constantly. |

3000 sq ft. and the top 500 sq ft -furnished attic-is completely unheated. kitchen is basically unheated (1/4 sized radiator )
so call it 2500
