I thought they were using the same 1.5% quota. There are kids that get accepted to both. When they choose one(or neither), then the spot opens up, I think first to students from teh same school if they haven't reached their minimum quota, then to the general pool. For AET, you apply to a specific pathway within the school. |
How tiger were they, if they couldn't even get the school to sponsor a MathCounts team, which they nearly won last year? Kids had to attend as non-school competitors, where they were not eligible to participate in the team contest, and it probably wasn't the top students either. |
PP was just using “tiger families” as a euphemism to cover their racism. They mean that Brambleton is very Asian, specifically south Asian Indian. |
TJ is still the better school. |
In what way? |
Didn’t get into AOS? |
That doesn't apply to just Brambleton, though. |
Despite AOS's being a tougher admit, I would say TJ is the better school, at least for now. They have more high level classes available for students. At AOS, you do not get calculus until 11th grade. Things might change if the teachers are forced to accommodate students who are not as capable. |
Its not racism to state that culturally the school is very different. And it IS. Factually. I agree that Brambleton is not the only school in LCPS that way. My friend who moved out there couldn't schedule any playdates for her kids because the families either don't believe in playdates and/or the kids are too busy at Kumon and Mathnasium. There are also not many kids in sports. |
I hear the school recruits athletes from other zones. Independence is a top school in many sports. |
Surprised to hear about the high workload. I thought that was exclusive to TJ. The science labs are considered to have some workload, but the math classes appear to be easy, with pretty much all the work done in class. |
This is not true. Brambleton is a neighborhood. It feeds multiple schools. There are tons of athletes who attend Independence. In fact, their parents lobbied VERY hard for their neighborhood to zone to Independence for that reason, which is why Indy is now overcrowded when it opened 4 years ago and Rock Ridge is sitting half empty. |
It’s a Loudoun thing, not exclusive to any school in particular |
For AOS/AET admissions, it seems they mail out the scores on the critical thinking/STEM test. Do the students receive them before the offers are posted on the portal or do they come later? |
Did anyone get AOL email for admissions and waiting listing few mins ago |
