Maret and new fields at ECC

There are no announced plans for the site other than the fields (which will be ready and used in the near future). I imagine any plans for the site, once decided, won’t be implemented for many years.

As a Maret parent, I hope this news doesn’t affect or delay modernization of the current building (which it desperately needs).

Apparently you are not allowed to ask these type of questions.

This is OP and I find your comment very offensive. Yes, we are a relatively new family but I do not feel that the school has necessarily been that transparent other than to continually ask for donations for the field (which we declined)

NP. You need to calm down, OP.

Don't be fooled. OP is a Chevy Chase NIMBY that's unaffiliated with the school. Move on, Boomer. Find some other sign of progress or development in your sweet little enclave to complain about.

Oooooooooh. The ultimate epithet: boomer.

They solicited questions and feedback in the announcement to parents and included a link to submit them directly to the school’s leadership. What makes you say that you’re not allowed to ask these types of questions?

Your earlier post

If you have questions after reading through the FAQs that they sent to parents, there is a link in the portal that allows you to submit them directly to school leadership. I don’t think asking in a random forum is going to get you any answers. If you’re just trying to throw out random questions to spark controversy, then that’s obviously a different issue and by all means, ask away here.

I think this was a massive win that will benefit the school financially and programmatically forever. That said, I imagine the NIMBY neighbors are probably next level apoplectic.

I would make sense for Maret to expand the Lower School into the new space and reform the main campus for middle and high school.

I am not part of the Maret community and don't have access to the community FAQ.

It’s a big site with eight buildings. Most likely have lower school(including 8th) over at this new site and high school only at Maret. This will allow them to expand each class.

No way. What they will probably do is build a beautiful indoor athletic facility as well so they can create a whole sports campus. Why would you put the little kids next to the gorgeous new fields?

The site is a historic district, so there probably isn't room for a large indoor athletic facility. The time to do that was before the invested in the fields and to have put it underground.

This is not part of the plans as far as anyone knows. Families love that Maret is a k-12 campus. It feels very integrated and is a lovely aspect of the school that really adds to its community feel.

Maret is doing due diligence on buy all of ECC. What are they going to do with it if not put their lower school there?

No one knows at this time, not even Maret. My guess is they move the high school there eventually. This would make the most sense logistically, to be close to the new fields.

No the current location is near metro and will make a fairly impressive High School with renovations. It would be stupid to move the high school. High school student use the sports facilities after school and it is a short drive or buss ride to ECC. The money and prestige is at the high school level. Look at Sidwell. Most people do not even know there is a lower school or if they do where it is.

The ECC is in the middle of the wilderness much better location for lower school. The logical action would be to build out the lower school at ECC using existing buildings/grounds and renovate the current Maret grounds as an upper school. It’s should be the priority. The lower school could be moved fairly quickly depending on the building and lack of historical property.

With the opening of the new field there will be enough space to stage construction at the Maret site and still conduct school. Though it will depend on what they plan to do to the property. I don’t think the school will have problems raising the money.
