Ellen ruthlessly bullying Taylor Swift

So we know it's possible.

Say all you want about James Corden being a jerk but on his show, he's great at only very gently teasing guests and also letting them have a good experience. Stephen Corbet and Trevor Noah also.

Oprah does this - it is ALWAYS all.about.her. That's why I stopped watching her years ago.

Wow - why have I never seen this or heard about it before? TS was almost in tears. At first, I thought it was a pre-rehearsed "bit" and she was just playing along. But it becomes pretty clear that she's very upset. And to think, I used to love Ellen!

Right? It was fine for Taylor to write songs about ex boyfriend's but not for someone to call her out on it.

What is there to wonder about ? It was publicity.

+1 this is actually much worse than I thought it would be

It's just terrible to see someone who's pushing back so hard and intentionally being humiliated

I used to think Ellen's show was light hearted as well.

Ellen clearly got off on humiliating guests, both celebs and the peasant proles who came on begging for free crap. She’s sinister.

Everyone knows Ellen is a very sick puppy.

I pity her.

Ellen is the HS outcast who makes it big and becomes cool later in life but makes it her secret mission to humiliate everyone around her who didn’t support her during her outcast years.

No one goes through what she did and comes out unscathed.

She has more problematic interviews than any other host.

Justin Bieber
Cher
Michelle Obama
Dakota Johnson
Katy Perry
Wendy Williams
Kathy Griffin
Celine Dion
The Jenners
And the list goes on.

What is there to "call out?" She's allowed to date, to write songs from personal experience (men do it, too, not just women), and then control how much of that she wants to discuss. Just because she's famous and writes songs doesn't mean everyone has full access to her information at all times. You don't give up all privacy. She writes songs to control her narrative, and then someone like Ellen comes along and decides she's going to control her narrative. WTH?

I’m sure Eleen doesn’t give a thought in the world what you think of her.

You can see her get a bit emotional about the topic for a very brief moment when David Letterman has Ellen in Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. Dave can’t seem to imagine why she disappeared and she is incredulous that he doesn’t understand.

Flash forward. Taylor disappeared due to Kanye.

You have two powerful women who are grown ups who can make choices. I’m not going to feel bad for Taylor here. This convo could have been planned like Ellen and Michelle Obama at CVS and Costco.

Taylor is quiet about her relationship now, and I don’t see rumors flying anymore. In the old days, she was getting photographed walking around. Ew York or having coffee with an actor. Or having pool parties with lots of models. You can choose to attract attention or not.

Julia Roberts and Jodie Foster are examples of two highly successful people who made decisions that help them avoid the limelight. A lot of this is a choice by a celebrity and their PR team.

Taylor was about 22 in that clip. Your comparisons are way off base.

It is easy to not remember today but back then she was not the powerful juggarnaut that she is today and Ellen was just a part of the circuit. The Biebs was on there time and time again too.

I found this clip to be worse than I was expecting clicking into it, she is clearly articulating why it is gross and that she does not want to do it.

+1 it does appear Taylor is much more selective with her interviews now and she definitely seems to have a lot more control over what they ask her. They are really only allowed to make fun of her about her cats now, which comes across as cute. I think Jimmy Fallon the only talk show she went on after her most recent album, at least in the US.

You obviously don’t get comedy.

You poor little pup.

But that was always Ellen's style of interviewing, so I don't get why all of the sudden everyone is outraged. Is it because it's TS in this instance? TS can handle herself just fine, she doesn't need your or anyone else's sympathy.
