Is it strange that my four year old still naps?

That's not unusual. It's fairly normal. If I could nap I would, too.

A lot of the kids who "give up the nap" are in daycare. I used to work in daycare. Parents used to beg all the time for us to keep kids awake, so they could put them to bed at 7:00, and not have to deal with them.

To be clear, I think quality daycare can be great, but 8 hours awake in childcare is enough, trading in 2 hours of sitting awake on a cot with nothing to do, for 2 hours of quality time with your parents is a terrible thing to do to a kid.

No, it sounds nice, please stop bragging about it.

- Parents of kids who started resisting naps at like 2.5 and who don't even get cranky when they don't nap, they simply do not need to sleep as much. We are so tired!

My kids went to daycare and I was the parent who wanted my kids to keep napping so I had more time with them in the evenings. My kids napped until they went to K. They were usually the last kids who woke up from a nap. That way they didn’t go to bed until 9 or 9:30. So they slept from 9pm-7am then from 1-3 pm for nap.

It made me sad to hear some parents saying they put their kids to bed at 6:30 or 7 pm. That seemed crazy to me.

I work in daycare and most 4 year olds nap. We are very active all day and they are all tired after lunch! A couple of parents ask us to skip nap so the kids can go to sleep early. It’s sad to see them struggle to stay awake.

Most children his age are sleep deprived. Good that your child is not sleep deprived.
