A lot of the kids who "give up the nap" are in daycare. I used to work in daycare. Parents used to beg all the time for us to keep kids awake, so they could put them to bed at 7:00, and not have to deal with them. To be clear, I think quality daycare can be great, but 8 hours awake in childcare is enough, trading in 2 hours of sitting awake on a cot with nothing to do, for 2 hours of quality time with your parents is a terrible thing to do to a kid.
My kids went to daycare and I was the parent who wanted my kids to keep napping so I had more time with them in the evenings. My kids napped until they went to K. They were usually the last kids who woke up from a nap. That way they didn’t go to bed until 9 or 9:30. So they slept from 9pm-7am then from 1-3 pm for nap. It made me sad to hear some parents saying they put their kids to bed at 6:30 or 7 pm. That seemed crazy to me.
