Volvo , BMW and Mercedes, leaning towards Volvo to be safe and not snooty?

Audis are for people who can't afford a Mercedes and everyone knows it.

You clearly haven't driven a Mercedes or you'd know how they drive. You can also read reviews which will tell you that your opinion is not a common one.

I don't know that Volvos are any safer these days than Mercedes and BMW - I feel like Volvos being the safest option is a little bit of an outdated thought.

I got a great gift card with my Volvo for the local Chinese take out. We are satisfied.

Love love my BMW X3, picked it over Audi Q5 and similar size MB. I picked on trunk space and feel and I’m very happy.

Never tested a Volvo and I do have a little FOMO considering how many friends have them. On the other hand, X3s are all over my neighborhood too.

Which Volvo? For example, the XC60 is offered a front wheel drive (all wheel drive optional). If they cared so much about safety, why not make all wheel drive standard? It's a lot safer.

Why is all wheel drive safer? Are all my cars unsafe?

I like the Volvo wagons. But Volvo platforms right now are a little long in the tooth.

Try driving a rear-wheel drive that isn't winterized properly in icy conditions and come back to ask that question again.

Oh wait, you might not be back...

(In all honesty, please refrain if you can; they spin/fishtail more easily than front-wheel drive or AWD and require more effort/expertise to drive safely in winter weather.)

And yet millions of people manage to drive without dying around the world. AWD is not inherently safer. RWD is not more susceptible to spinning or sliding out with basic driving skills. What matters most is tires. I’ll put my RWD German sedan (50/50 weight distribution) with Conti ExtremeContact DWS06+ up against any AWD passenger vehicle in anything up to 7 inches of snow. A 50 pound bag of sand in the trunk never hurts after an ice event or major snowfall. I used to have a Audi sedan Quattro and Blizzaks that was marginally better at launching on a slick surface.

We have an xc90 and an x3. I love my x3. Just need more space for our family on a regular basis, and the volvo is great for that.

XC90 Recharge is an amazing vehicle. You can do all your daily activities on a single charge EV only mode, then you have the gas engine for longer trips.

I have driven both BMWs and Mercedes. I prefer BMW (had 3) to Mercedes (had 2), but Mercedes has a smoother ride, IMO.

Which models are you comparing?

Re the volvo pay attention to reliability issues. I wanted the revamped xc90 but read a lot at swedespeed.com and ran away. Audis are more reliable than volvos now but still are rife with problems. All the cars mentioned have less than stellar reliability.

I know plenty of Snooty ppl with Volvos.

Never buy Volvo - had so many issues. Not sure why people driving those would be snooty as it is a horrible choice.
