Volvo , BMW and Mercedes, leaning towards Volvo to be safe and not snooty?

Volvo is a Chinese company now, so I would have doubts about their long term reliability and truth in safety testing.

This was why I didn't buy one. Was worried about getting parts if ever in an accident. I was looking at the xc90 about 2 years about, and it was $60k for the inscription model and bigger engine, I think. Which mercedes are you looking at. I don't think there is one that's around the same price. A not base gle will be closer to $70k now. Maybe volvo is really maked up now though, and aren't they redesigning it soon? It's looked the same forever.

Have you seen the redesign? The giant double grill? Front end heavy? I was getting an X5 until I saw that it would soon be outdated due to the redesign. And I think you need to go pretty high up in the Audi models to get a really excellent driver. Lower levels seem very ordinary.

I feel like Lexus, BMW, and Audi for some reason made all of their cars extraordinarily ugly with those front grills. Even the electric BMW is ugly and it doesn’t even need a grill to begin with. It’s very much a situation with the emperor’s new clothes where you are paying extra for an ugly car.

This made me lol. I am the PP on the X5. They are rolling out that EV grill for other models. I have a neighbor who has the EV and I swear it looks like a Chipmunk. And I love BMW. FWIW, I went with the Cayenne instead. I figured once in a lifetime you need a Porsche.

Volvos are totally snooty. Don’t kid yourself. Everyone knows they are $$$$$. Do BMW’s even have apple car play yet? They were a very late mover on that. And isn’t Mercedes charging a monthly fee now for their heated seats to keep working?

I would buy none of these.

The Ascent Touring is SO NICE on the inside, and so fugly on the outside, I couldn’t bring myself to do it. And I’m not a snob - I’d never buy one of the car’s OP is considering but subarus look so meh.

Volvos IMO have never been great looking cars either. Frankly by the time it's big enough to have a third row it's a big car

Is this a joke? They were the first one to come out with wireless CarPlay.

Genesis still doesn’t offer wireless CarPlay. And Volvo only added non-wireless CarPlay through an OTA update in July. Meanwhile BMW has offered wireless CarPlay since 2017 and has added Android Auto and Alexa to iDrive 7 and 8. You will see manufacturers moving to subscription models to unlock pre-installed features thanks to the visionary capitalism of Elon Musk. In fairness, however, manufacturers are now rolling out OTA software updates for newer models on a regular basis. This is not an inexpensive endeavor.

No idea what you are talking about. I've had CarPlay in my Volvo since we purchased it in 2020.

Depends on the model and when it was last updated.

I don't get the brand hate. What's important is safety ratings, part quality and fuel consumption, not social perceptions! Get the car you want, OP, and to heck with what you imagine people's reactions will be.

I’ve had many Volvos and switched to MB. The MB had so many expensive repairs, we got rid of it. It had stalling problems that were never fully resolved.

The Volvos have been much better, but the AC in all of them has never been ice cold like our Camry and Tundra.
