We don't really play into the naughty/nice thing. I never threaten my kids that "Santa is watching" or something like that.
My daughter was worried one year about getting coal and asked me about it. I told her I didn't know anyone who ever got coal. She was maybe 6 and then says "what about Donald Trump?" and I had to say "well yes, he probably does get coal, you're right". So now at age 8 she still believes good old D.Trump is the only person to have ever gotten coal from Santa .

| Yet another family that never did naughty/nice. And I think the Elf is creepy and commercial, so we never did that either. |
This was the topic of the thread …. |
| Several posters have referred to Christian children “taunting” non-Christian children. |
|
Check out Mr. Chaz on Instagram. He has some good posts to help think through Santa.
We are a Christian family but my husband grew up entirely without Santa and Christmas trees and all the non-religious aspects of Christmas. Our son is only 2 so we only casually mention Santa as a character. Santa brings one toy, about $20, and we give him a modest amount of other things. (The grandparents are a different story…) We won’t be doing the naughty/nice thing or the sees you when you’re sleeping. |
And yet none have actually experienced any taunting. Why is OP so worried about a non issue? |
What kind of jewish is this? I grew up Jewish in a jewish community (Long Islanders represent!) and we all got hanukah gifts, and the Christian kids got christmas gifts. My kids are jewish and don't get visited by Santa. |
|
I hope no one tells the OP about how they celebrate in the Netherlands.
Santa is totally Christian. It is Saint Nicholas who is the patron saint of children. Now there are plenty of people who celebrate who don't believe in Jesus, I'm one of them, but to deny that CHRISTmas isn't Christian is really disingenuous. |
Yet none have given any examples. |
My roommate in college was Methodist and their family didn’t celebrate Christmas with a tree or gifts or Santa. She explained that her family saw Christmas as a purely religious celebration of Christ’s birth. I think the material sode of Christmas can be overwhelming and simple can be great, but she said as a child she was sad about not having a tree or gifts or christmas cookies, etc. |
With you on the material side, but the issue here is whether she was "taunted." |
| Most of the taunting occurs around Easter historically. |
No taunting occurred. |
Historically but no longer. Show us the kid who learned to discriminate in Sunday school. |
Christian children taunt other children at Easter? No, kids eat chocolate bunnies and hunt for colorful easter eggs with candy or small toys inside. Never in my life have I heard children taunting other children at Easter time. There are some very weird people posting here, making odd and false accusations. It’s disturbing. |
