| Tutor Me has been g*d sent. I am happy MCPS has added this much needed service for our kids. I heard other districts don’t have this support. |
| Thanks for the insight. My child is on a IEP and we were matched within 24 hours. The tutor has been extremely helpful and supportive. We are grateful they are offering this! |
| Are any of these tutors in-person? My kid is vehemently opposed to anything virtual these days. |
|
Can my child use the services if she is above average? She is first grader, intellectually gifted with IEP. Can she use the services for a few grades above level for math and reading, or other subjects like foreign language/geography/science that has not been taught/offered at her grade level?
I am seriously asking this if I could use that for enrichment. Anyone has done that? Do we need approval from her IEP team or classroom teacher or school? |
| How flexible are the hours do they offer for online tutoring services? On weekday nights or weekend? |
Very. You work out the hours with the tutor. You can do as many hours as you want. Our tutors are very flexible and no big deal to switch things around when needed. |
Yes, it’s for all kids. You can use it for enrichment. No letter needed. Request the subjects and if they have a tutor they will match you. |
No. Some schools offer in person. Tell them to get a job and pay for in person if they want it. |
When we filled out the form, we asked for a specific time - in our case Sunday evening. We got matched |
Kind AND helpful. Thanks as always, DCUM. |
It’s free. If they refuse virtual that’s on the child and you need to tell them to grow up and use it or you or they can pay for in person. Seems to work just fine for the rest of us. |
My friend tried to set up a session multiple times (Feb 2022-Jun 2022) and couldn't. I tried to set up a session more recently (Fall 2022) and was able to do that after waiting some time. The first session was so so so bad. Nothing I want my child to spend time on even though it is for free. I profusely apologized to my child that she had to sit through that. I am happy for the people who were able to set up a session and got lucky with a good tutor. I've only heard negative experience from other parents I know. So it sounds strange to me when somebody talks about it as if this is something so wonderful. |
We had one meh tutor. No big deal. We requested a new one and got it. It happens. You keep trying. Or you pay for your own tutor. We could not afford to pay for a few time a week tutoring. If you can good for you. |
Posted this upthread, but maybe you didn't see it: Have you all tried having student search through their account? They can look through tutors and see bios and availability and just book directly. No waiting for assignment. May even be a different pool. The tutors we were assigned were not the ones on list my daughter had. She prefers the one she found to the ones we were assigned. Good luck |
When you did this, did you then end up with them for a regular tutor? We may need to switch one tutor. I appreciate you posting this. |
