Anybody using FEV Tutor or Tutor Me?

Is anybody using FEV Tutor or Tutor Me (free tutoring offered by MCPS)? I submitted a request, but I haven't heard from them since. A pop-up message did say it may take months to find a tutor. I probably should give up on the free service and go find/pay a tutor myself, but wanted to ask other people's experience.

We use Tutor Me and good experience. You need to email them directly. We've had a few good tutors and one bad one and we asked to change and it wasn't an issue. We do two subjects twice a week, more if needed.

I could never figure out FEV Tutor.

We used Tutor Me. My teen did the request and was able to view bios of various tutors and schedule a tutor/time. Thought it was great. My email must have been on there somewhere because they reached out to me to schedule as if they had no idea my kid had scheduled. We were like, why not try it (the tutor she had tried wasn't available in her regularly free time). The one they selected stated she taught chemistry, but she was really more physics and didn't have the detailed knowledge my kid needed. They paired her up with another, so we'll try that Monday, I think.

So, in summary, seems lika a great idea, though a bit disorganized.

We had to switch math tutors as one wasn't good and then again as ours couldn't tutor anymore. They aren't very organized or don't have enough tutors but they've been overall good and saved us a fortune.

The math tutor we had was not good but also seemed kind of nuts, lashing out at us when our daughter didn’t want to continue. We were told it would be a long wait for someone else.

Yikes! If you request through student vue, you might be able to see the list of tutors and bios and see if anyone has any availability that works for you.

It depends on the topic. I’d email twice a week asking for a new one. It’s harder with the higher level math.

We are waiting for a placement on a higher level high school course. Got an email saying it can take 2 weeks or longer on Nov 7

Is it true that tutors here are mostly college kids? Many parents I know hire actual teachers with years of experience for something like $100/hour. The quality must be very different because Tutor Me pays $16 per hour for tutors. Not many qualified people take that kind of low pay.

The whole thing is just weird to me. So, MCPS can’t afford smaller class sizes and it can’t afford to hire more teachers. But we can use taxpayer money to pay a private company to tutor our students.

No, ours are adults, most with an experience like a retired teacher. One was a PhD student who now has the PhD.

It's covid money. Cannot be used for teachers.

No, ours are adults, most with an experience like a retired teacher. One was a PhD student who now has the PhD.

NP: my son’s Tutor Me calc/ chem tutor is a retired engineer.

Also, reach out to families at your school. We have shared our tutors a few times. (one I sent so many he's full).
