I hope you choose this name and that it causes confusion and mispronunciations.

Just no. Use William and call him Will

I don’t understand why people ask opinions and then are upset when people give opinions. If you want to put it to a vote, it’s a big thumbs down. Most people hate it. But if you don’t care what people think, why ask?

Very Utah mom blogger dressing the kid only in neutrals.

I wouldn’t use it myself but I also wouldn’t blink if I heard it as a boy’s name at preschool. I think I’d find it more unusual for a girl.

It’s a stupid name.

Lol. Op here. Just for reference what's a non stupid name to you?

Yeah
What are your kids names, PP?

DD1 is Laura
DC2 is Ingalls

I also thought Almanzo Wilder. I always liked "Manly" Wilder so it's a positive association to me. Seems very masculine. I have a very hard time imagining it for a girl.
Not my favorite name but it doesn't have the bad boy or made up name connotations to me that it seems to for some others on this board. I would assume it's a family name or you had read LHOTP and liked it.

Wait - it's not going to be pronounced wild-er? Then it's a hard no. People will get it wrong 100% of the time.

I think it's cute. Nothing I would use, but it's not terrible.

Only for a middle name, and only if the first name is Ingalls or Almanzo.

Maybe consider Wyatt?

I don't like it for a boy and think it's really terrible for a girl. It just seems too try hard. Trying to do what? I'm not sure....trying to be cool I guess.

It's fine as a middle name though.

Is it Wile-der (as in more wild) or Will-der?

Op here. I haven't been upset at all. But let's be clear, very few posters are giving opinions. Most are being jerks

Op here. That poster was not me and I don't understand the point they were trying to make.

Oh please. Wilder has been used as a first name for literally centuries and you people act like is the same thing as naming your kid “slower”.

Nope, and there are databases to prove it. Wilder has been a surname, not a first name. Similar to Madison, obvs a surname, and only became a first name after the girls who saw "Splash" in the 80s became moms. Daryl Hannah's mermaid was named Madison because that's the first strret sign the male character saw when asked her name. The data shows ... Madison rises from the 80s. Wilder only just occurred in the 2010s.
