For OP: What part of Takoma Park do you live in?
Do you have a "Hate has no home here" sign in your yard? |
|
Do you refers to Latinos as "LatinX"?
Do you do yoga? |
I live in Silver Spring, and no.
Elrich did not close schools nor was that even his authority, businesses have been open since May 2020, and he never mandated masks outdoors.
If only! But the point was that I enthusiastically support Elrich and the new Council (especially Kristin Mink) and there are a lot of people who think like me and it is useful to know how out of touch the wealthy elites of DCUM are.
Never. Neither does Elrich - he's not into that kind of crap. A lot of you think that the Elrich-left is the same as the "woke" left. Those are the Riemer voters. Elrich supporters are more economic populists, not about all the performative woke nonsense.
Yes
Both are a victory for workers! |
Me TOO! |
I don’t want balance in the county. I want full-on end-stage liberalism. I want the people who’ve pushed this to be a one party county to fully realize the fruits of their efforts. I’d like to see the entire county turned into a lunatic festival like Tacoma Park. That’s what this county deserves, and I want to help it happen. I want falling housing prices, schools failing, taxes and crime ever-increasing and businesses fleeing for Virginia or Frederick. Electing nothing but dems for decades has brought us to the precipice of this, and now I want to help make sure the people of this county get what they voted for. That’s why I voted for Elrich. |
The County Executive proposes the full budget for the county including the county's contribution to the school system. It is not just a yes/no, it is a dollar amount. The Council of course can amend it. The County Executive also has full control over the use of county buildings including rec facilities and recreation programs and athletic facilities owned by the county. No I will not vote for a transphobe for this office, thank you very much. |
| Are you aware that there are many liberals in the county who are not as enthusiastic about Elrich, Mink, and the rest? That these liberals (including me and plenty of others I know) are concerned about a runaway exec and council? |
Yes, I’m aware of you. You helped get us here, to where we are now. Now you wanna hit the brakes? Nope. Sorry. Full speed ahead, hard left. |
What’s your end-game? You want to head “full speed ahead,” but to where? We still need to be able to attract businesses and residents, which is hard to do when the local govt isn’t trusted or respected and with increasing crime. |
DP and I’m relatively new to the area, so more likely that you’ve been helping more than me. Do you own a house? Have kids who attend the public schools? Or are you so rich that none of it matters? Seems strange you’re out to self-sabotage yourself. |
Yes, it is self-sabotage. I figure we’ll probably lose a couple hundred thousand on our home vs. what we would’ve been able to sell for if MoCo wasn’t so much of a sh!tshow and Fairfax Co wasn’t 10 minutes away across a bridge. So be it. Our kids went to public schools (WJ cluster) and the youngest is done after this year. House is long since paid off, and if MoCo properly taxes weren’t so high we could probably make more on the sale when we leave. But when you’re in a county where you’re adding almost the equivalent of a monthly mortgage payment for a starter-home JUST in property taxes on top of your mortgage, it definitely takes some of the potential value off the top price you can expect for your home. Dems got us here. They control every facet of county govt. Now some dems think it’s gone too far? Too bad. You’re already well into ruining this county, and now you want to stop? Nope. You need to get what you voted for. I want the entire county to be Tacoma Park writ-large. We’re going to leave in a few years, and I want this county to be even worse by then. I feel like I owe all of you who got us here that much. |

I'm perplexed by all the people complaining about property taxes here. My friends in Suffolk VA actually pay just as much in property taxes as we do, but their houses don't cost as much..
It's weird people think the property taxes in MoCo are so high, and we do get a lot for them. https://www.noradarealestate.com/blog/property-taxes-by-county https://taxfoundation.org/property-taxes-by-state-county-2022/ People in Falls Church, VA pay more property taxes than in MoCo. It took me five minutes to find this info. |
shhhh you'll ruin the narrative
|
MoCo property taxes are higher than Suffolk. Suffolk is 1.09%-1.33%: https://www.suffolkva.us/970/Real-Estate-Taxes Here are MoCo rates, look at the right most colujmn for full rate: https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/Finance/Resources/Files/data/propertytaxrate/2022/realproperty.pdf It's mostly in the 1.10-1.20% rate depending on the area in MoCo. Then you get trash collection added to your bill also if you live in a SFH. |
Not to mention the water quality charge, aka the rain tax. DC property taxes, by comparison, rank 41st in the country. |
