Yay! Another religious holiday!

If you want more days in the school year, advocate for that. But if it's going to be 180 days no matter what, why is a day off here and there a big deal?

NP. Lay off OP. I happen to entirely agree with them. The momentum this school year has been lackluster. Kiddos need to be in school.

Because no teaching happens once the SOLs are held and yet we have weeks of school after....those count towards the 180 days but no real instruction happens. Is that what you want for your kids education? Imbecile.

The working parents just want the free childcare. That’s all this is about.

Can you stop the sock pupetting? You're hateful. I am a working parent with older kids. I don't want free child care but I want education. I have a Sped kid who fell far behind during COVID. The services he receives in school are none that I can mimic. Every day off and every interruption is a set back for him. So back off with your idiocy.

This includes Christian holidays right? School on Christmas, hooray!

Totally fine with that, we don't celebrate religious Christmas. Granted, most of the Teachers will take vacation during that week. And most of my kids classmates will be out. And there won't be any substitute Teachers. Why? Because that is a holiday that people actually miss school for. This has not been an issue for any of the other days that have been added to the schedule this year.

The O day debacle last year was easily fixed by changing the language that allows for teaching in class so that the day didn't turn into a ditch day for everyone. But instead let's find a religious holiday for everyone and give more time off so that summer vacation is delayed and kids schedules are disrupted. Yeah us!

My kids school teaches after the SOLs. How do I know? I see the work come home and the test announcements and the projects they are doing. Maybe you should chat with your school about what they are doing about after the SOL. And I still think the religious holidays off are ridiculous and disruptive.

But why do people take Christmas off? Because our society always gives it off. Most don’t go to church during the day on Christmas. They could celebrate in the evening but we don’t make them.

So why don't you focus on what happens after the sols, or when they are administered? Having one day off for a holiday observed by a billion people around the world doesn't seem like it would be as important as that.

Its a scam, has anyone analzyed work days this year vs 10 years a go? Are we getting the value for our money with the taxes?

First, it is a myth for most schools that no teaching occurs after SOLs. More importantly, is it absolutely necessary to resort to name calling and insults to make a point? Can't we hav ea conversation without that garbage> A DP here, btw,

Liberals fought hard to remove any entanglement between public school and Christian religion, now these hypocrites can't add enough religious holidays to the schedule.

Wish my kids were in school and learning. Wish the School Board even cared about that.

It's interesting the push for the school holiday when many Indians in the area are contractors whose company doesn't provide the day off. Yes, they can take a vacation day if they have some available or they can take the day off without pay so many don't. The celebration mostly happens in the evening anyway so no reason parents couldn't work the day if they had to.

Just some perspective

You are getting 180 days on instruction. They haven't reduced the number of school days.

Clearly your kids don’t learn tolerance at home so I agree they need to be in school as much as possible.

Making summer break longer is the dumbest idea.

Your perspective should add that kids are usually up (and possibly out) very, very late on this holiday and would not have time to do HW.
