How do EOTP middle schoolers get to Deal/Hardy/other WOTP schools?

Anonymous
My friend in Petworth got her kids into Hyde-Addison OOB and said there were a lot of other families in the neighborhood who did too. Enough to make carpooling a possibility.

A lot of Hardy kids take the bus. If the child did even one way it would save you a lot of commuting. Carpooling is also a good idea. Good luck!

Its really tough with the new road closures and Safe Streets initiatives. Early dropoff and pickup is essential. 1 hour commutes daily.

You sure about that? Sort of feels silly to sell your house and move for a "grass is greener" scenario, particularly when all of these school districts change their programming at the drop of a hat.

yes, quite sure. that’s just some rumors about 9th grade.

I'd rent in MoCo for for HS in your shoes, renting out DC house and returning as empty nesters. Or I'd try for fi aid at privates.

while a 20-25 minute drive might not look bad, it turns into 40-50 minutes round trip for a caregiver/family who doesnt work or otherwise have reason to travel in that direction. that adds up quickly.

A 40 minutes round-trip for drop off turns into 75 minutes round trip at pick up because afternoon traffic is so much worse.

I do this and it’s fine. Has NEVER been 75 minutes. Car time offers great bonding and conversation opportunities. It’s worth it to us. My kid loves their school and we are able to stay in the great house that works for us EOTP. It may not work for everyone, but it is entirely doable and far preferable to moving for us.

My friends just started doing this commute for elementary school (3rd grade) and they are already talking about moving to MoCo. It is unsustainable.

Oh round-trip at 4pm doesn't EVER take you 75 minutes? Either you missed the "round-trip" or "4pm" qualifiers, or you're thinking "Hearst to Mount Pleasant" when we're thinking "Key to Shaw".

Nope. We are doing NE to Hardy feeder. Has never taken 75 minutes (round trip). It usually takes 40, can take up to 60 but that is on a REALLY bad day. Have only been a couple of those.

There is just no way you can get from CH to Hardy round trip in 40 minutes at 4pm rush hour. I’m north by H St and during the middle of the day with no traffic, it takes me 25-30 minutes to get to just Wisconsin Ave by M St. Even if you hop on 395, it’s still minimum 25 minutes. Good luck with doing that at 4pm because you can double that time.

PP above needs to tell us exactly what neighborhood to Hardy or whatever school to be believable.
