Does sheer excess depress you after a while?

Yes, excess is depressing. Every time I go to Costco and I see those shelves full of boxes top to bottom I think about how much we consume and how half of the world is starving.

Fast fashion, home decor, big box purchases that end up filling our basements and garages - why? So we can feel like we’ve made it in life?

The older I get, the less stuff I want to accumulate.

Yes. Garbage and recycling day on my street is so depressing. So many families have overflowing bins every.single.week. I'm not talking just the week after a holiday or the week you cleaned out your garage. Every.damn.week. DH and I are constantly asking each other - why do we have so much less garbage than everyone else? Where is it all coming from? Also, the number of people who can park ZERO cars in their two car garage that we all have.

Sometimes 7 days is required to get to the destinations. Otherwise, you can make it to 1 island, then turn around and come back.

I hate looking in my kitchen trash can. I feel guilty and I wish there was another way.

Usually 7 day trips every few months and I think they are cost effective, even with the price of the cruise and a few extras like drink package, and random gift shop stuff, we usually come out at less than we would spend flying somewhere, staying in a hotel and then doing activities. The issue is that near the end of the cruise, I start to feel icky. Like looking around at all the excess and realizing it isn’t sustainable. Does anyone else feel like this?

Didn’t put this in the travel forum since it can apply to many things other than cruises (seeing store throw away merchandise, the amount of cars on the road, etc)

Are you fat ?

What does that have to do with this post?

Me too. I haven't stepped foot in a Costco in 10 years. I just can't take it thinking about the 500 warehouses (or however many there) filled floor to ceiling with blister packages of crap that we don't need or that will get thrown out without being used.
