| Landon has already responded to the matter on Instagram saying they are concerned by the video and looking into it. |
| If you are doing that much mental gymnastics to say this is okay behavior...you are also part of the problem. Keep reinforcing white privilege. |
| They were actually singing a rap song. I'm AA and didn't think it was that bad. |
| White high school students should understand the history of that epithet and know that they should not use it even though the artist does. Landon doesn't seem to teach much critical thinking, that's for sure! |
It is, as is the gymnastic displays you’re going through to defend it. |
Shouldn't that go for all high school students. Its not fair to have different standards for different race kids. Critical thinking should be far more than just an attack on white students. The kids were wrong but anyone using that word in public is wrong regardless of their race. However, this happened off school property so is Landon responsible? I don't think so and its the parents responsibility. |
People intentionally call things racist that are not (like this) to undermine the anti-racist cause and/or obscure actual racism. I agree that this is a nothing burger. |
Everyone in America understands the epithet and it’s complicated usage. I’m a fairly large black man. No white kid is going to get close to me, while by himself on a metro car, and start rapping to Lil Baby lyrics while saying the n word. In a group of 50 kids going to a game with me on the far end of a metro car or watching on the other end of the smartphone, sure. But in scenario 1 they would know better bc they understand the word and they understand time and place. I agree that the word is problematic but in the world of race problems, of which we have many, it’s nothing. Double standards run through rampant through our culture. Everyone just has to try to be respectful and move forward. This video literally is just boys being boys. Nothing to see here. The idea anyone would get suspended or expelled for this is absurd. |
| I am less worried about the song (although I don’t condone it) as there are a million songs they could sing that people would find offensive. What I find the most concerning is their overall behavior in a public space. Where are the chaperones and/or teachers? Seems to me based on the behavior displayed, that a conversation on how to behave and act appropriately on public transportation and in public in general needs to be had prior to this trip and reinforced throughout. Kindergartners are taught how to stand in line quietly and sit quietly - these boys didn’t seem to get that lesson. Truly embarrassing for the school and, once again, another example of Landon boys behaving badly. It just reinforces the stereotype. There is definitely a LOT of work that still needs to be done. |
Yes, this is America, but to be more specific, this is DC where kids that are the same age as these students get released with little to no punishment after committing serious crimes. To be sure, the landon kids seem like idiots, but how can you justify taking a hardline against them when kids are out there committing robbery and assault with little or no consequences? |
+1. If a group doesn’t want the word said, then don’t say it, and for heaven’s sake don’t publicize it! This bait-and-condemn approach is absurd. |
Uh that’s not a “response.” They’re stalling to see if it blows up or whether it will just pass. Also will depend on who the identifiable kids are in the video- are the sons of VIPs? Athletes? Or boys who are expendable and can be left out to dry. |
“Bait and Condemn” -
Teach your little punk brats of privilege how to behave in public. We all expect more from Landon kids because they have been handed EVERY opportunity on a silver platter. If these are the values being taught… |
LMAO White people mad they can’t say it without repercussions
|
| Have to admit I would not appreciate that on my morning commute. But I put more blame on the artist for the language. |
