David Blair spent $6.55 million on his own campaign. Plus $2M+ in independent expenditures.

maybe he doesn't miss the money

Remember, Elrich only eeked out a win. Won by a much smaller margin than last time, which was already small.

This should tell you that more and more people did not want Elrich.

Actually Elrich got more votes this time around. The reason it was so close it's because of all the republicans who switched and voted for Blair.

There are people who switched parties, but there is no data to show the magnitude of that switch . If you look strictly at total registrations, the Dems gained about 2,000 for this primary but unaffiliated gained about 15,000. We don’t know, without out more data, whether this had an impact.

Doesn't matter. The result is that Elrich is not as popular as his supporters think he is.

It does. Elrich supporters incorrectly the Democratic vote against him was from Republicans. They cannot face that many long-time liberal Democrats loathe him.

I don't vote for people because I "like" them, I vote for the policies they support and whether I think they plan to screw over eastern MoCo.

I would be fine with a combo of Elrich and Blair, who doesn't take large donations, supports business development and making the permitting process easier, gets rid of the strange alcohol laws, and supports the environment and not building a lot of dense cheap housing.

I'm sure a democrat could run on eliminating all the strange alcohol laws and win only on that platform, as long as they didn't take donations from developers.

This is all very simple. Well over half of MoCo democratic voters chose someone other than Elrich. Blair came within an eyelash of beating him but fell short because Riemer split the anti-Elrich vote. It wasn’t so much that Riemer ran and stayed in the race. Riemer’s attacks on Blair pulled votes away from Blair, and both he and his supporters spread misinformation about the state of the race right until the very end. The Riemer voters get what they deserve.

He apparently spent about $5M in his first matchup with Elrich, so he's $11M in. Did I read that correctly?

Oh, no. I'm an avowed liberal who hasn't voted Republican since 2000. Have never been registered anything but Democrat, and vote in every single election. I am absolutely voting for Sully.

Calling bullshit. You are not an “avowed liberal” if you are actually going to vote for someone who voted for Trump, didn’t want to protect the vulnerable from Covid, and whines about so-called CRT.

I don't like his stance on CRT and he can't do anything about the school curriculum anyway. But I hate Elrich more. He is corrupt. And he's brought crime here. Council is guilty too. But he touts himself as an anti-racist, yet governs by hashtag policy, not understanding (or likely not caring) that his policies, all across the board, hurt people of color, because he doesn't take the time to really dig deep into the issues and understand unanticipated consequences.

I would hope the result of this election would be a somewhat chastened Elrich and also Council. I think Elrich understands that. Judging by recent Twitter activity, we really need to be worried about the County Council.

You mean to tell me that there are that many Rs in MoCo such that there was only a 34 vote difference?

+1 It's like the Bernie voters who voted for Trump over HRC, which meant they got even less of what they wanted with Trump. It's a cut off your nose to spite your face vote. Congrats. You screwed all of us.

How much F#ck You Money does this guy have?

Spending $11m of your personal fortune to be a county official sounds like a horrible ROI. I could understand it for Governor or Senator.

But for a county job? Horrible.
