Landon "Sportsmanship"

Landon has paid security guards. Why in the world would Landon students be 'guarding' the school at night? That is a needless legal liability waiting to happen. Did the administration approve of this?

please reread the previous post. this was a a long time tradition that happens before the prep landon lacrosse game.

Does the administration approve of this? Their insurance company needs to know.

Oh dear!

"cost somebody several several thousand dollars to fix" . . . if parents wanted their children to experience consequences, then the kids should have paid for the repairs to the turf. I wonder if they did . . .

Landon - Prep rivarly is always a fun one. Students do need to be careful with bb guns and paint ball guns. I attended Landon in the late 90's. The night before the Landon - Prep football or lacrosse game, students from both schools have always guarded their campus. This is nothing new folks.

Landon did not invade Prep's campus this year rather the GP students came onto Landon's campus. Landon students should not have thrown rocks but the GP students should not have trespassed onto Landons campus at 2AM with bb guns and paint ball guns. These are all facts! Both administrations - Landon and GP need to make it clear to next year's students you will be suspended or expelled if caught on the opposing teams campus in the after hours.

Both schools have experienced their fair share of damange over the years. Its not one sided at all.

It is stupid, silly, and pointless. How is this fun? Vandalism should never be fun . I have a HS DS who doesn't think it is fun. And he starts on varsity.

Vandalism is a little strong of a word when you're painting painted boulders and throwing toilet paper. Those fall into the "prank" category. Destroying a new turf field? -- that's taking it up a notch. So is throwing rocks and wielding bb/paintball guns. Too bad that kids these days have decided to push this to such a dangerous level. Landon/Prep is a fun rivalry.

More details on this in today's Washington Post article. So Landon--for some of the kids they disciplined, they hid it from the colleges the kids were accepted to. God forbid anyone have to even FEAR a real consequence.

All of the kids disciplined had to write letters of explanation to their colleges.

. . . but did their parents make them work to pay for the damages? I've always admired the parents of one of my closest friends. They are truly wealthy through an extended family business, but all of their six children learned the meaning of the words "responsibility" and "consequences" from the time they were young. When one of the brothers partied too much at UVA his freshman year and earned low grades, he was given one option--come home, get a part-time job, graduate from the local college . . . or you're on your own. He opted for the former. Now in his mid-30's, he's a very successful CPA with a great family.

The Board Chair told the Post not all colleges were notified, by design--his kid was a perp, he would know.
