Private & Independent Schools
Neighbors might have heard it. If they called 911 then police should have been there. |
| Landon if you know which kid threw that rock and do nothing about it, well then, you're just exactly the kind of school everyone has suggested you are. |
| I'm sure the Landon administration, kid and his parents believe the rock throwing was justified. That's the Landon culture. |
| Remember that GH threw a lacrosse ball at someone's head after a game. Then reread all the stuff about how Landon didn't play a role in building his character. |

Don't you think that the culture of today's "elitism" fires these students to think they are immune from their bad acts? Parents are the ultimate reason for this lack of moral values.
I went to a small private school which operated under the Honor System. My father was military and I knew the consequences of bad behavior and unsportsmanlike conduct. If there are no consequences for bad behavior then it will, inevitably, end up bad. Not necessarily murder but drunk driving, possibly rape. destruction of property, etc. Children need to know that there are consequences for bad choices. Parents, in this case his father, should have rememberd that he was a parent and not his son's drinking buddy. |
| Landon isn't a boarding school so what were students doing there at 2:00 a,m, Do other parents let their children (teen agers) stay out that late? Mine don't. |
| I just can't believe that Landon kids through a rock through a car window under any circumstances and are allowed to get away it. Speaks VOLUMES about the school. |
| Just because you haven't heard about consequences doesn't mean that there weren't any. Landon doesn't have an obligation to publicly announce any disciplinary actions and does have a mandate to protect the privacy of its student records. |
| Given the reality of Landon's situation, it might be wise to at least make the pretense of discipline. |
| There was no discipline. |

From what I understand some of these boys play lacrosse! |
Apparently the presidential scholar representing Maryland has come from Landon 3 out of the last 10 times. Who knew! |
| Discipline rendered-fair, not mild |

for those of you who continue to blast Landon. Not a single lacrosse player was involved here with either school. It was the night before Landon - Georgetown Prep lacrosse game.
From my sources, about 15 or so Prep students drove on to Landons campus and were attempting to Spray - paint Landon's "white rocks". 5 Landon students were guarding Landons campus. Prep students had BB Guns and paint ball guns, no punches were thrown but tons of shit talking. Prep students should have no business sneaking onto Landon's campus at 2AM. And yes folks, they were attempting to do some vandalism. |

This rock-painting prank is a 30-40 year tradition (for lack of a better word).
GP students (typically not the athletes themselves) sneak onto campus and paint the rocks blue and gray (GP's school colors) late the night before a big game. For the most part, it used to be viewed as harmless fun. Landon's groundskeepers would typically have the rocks re-painted white before the start of school the next morning. But it sounds like this generation is taking it to a dangerous level with bb/paintball guns and rock throwing -- YIKES! Not entirely sure, but I seem to recall that a few Landon boys reciprocated by ruining Prep's new artificial turf field a few years ago by painting a brown "L" on it. Wasn't as easy to repair as the rocks along a driveway -- cost somebody several several thousand dollars to fix. Prep - Landon is among the best athletic rivalries in the mid-Atlantic (for all sports, not just lax), but one that should be waged on the field of play before someone gets seriously hurt. |
