I agree. The portal will become a significant factor for difference making players, IMO. For those players, schools will be under pressure to increase scholarships or those players will jump. |

Just keep an open mind about the whole thing.
That doesn’t mean heartbreak either. A school may come out of the shadows and be your best bet. I must say that unless your top 20 player, you will be disappointed come 9-1. The phone calls are not “through the roof” only for the top players and they know who they are. Lots of random emails. From schools that are not even Div 1 but lower level D2 or D3 schools. But maybe there is more room to move with these schools in terms of money and benefits(R&B) Keep your schedules open but don’t plan too far in advance. Some schools have a recruiting culture and if your a part of it dont get your hopes up too high. Move on. Some schools are actively building programs and offer lots, and others have laid back on their laurels and don’t care to have a competitive team. You will discover this. Also you will discover that golden programs aren’t not so golden underneath. Good luck and keep an open mind and be that diamond! |
Don't really agree with this. Any starting players on a top 30 nationally ranked club will have alot of activity on 9/1 providing they have been reaching out to coaches throughout the past couple years. The challenge is that 90% of those contacts usually don't result in offers. The challenge is to know what you want and sell yourself aggressively. |
Really? Top teams are laid back on their laurels and dont care to field competitive teams? Sounds like they were not interested in your DD? That is just not an accurate statement. |
I think his point is that some bottom D1 schools (MAC especially) don't use their full allocation of 12 scholarships, don't travel to as many tourneys, and don't offer paid visits, which is true. Wouldn't say that is not trying to be competitive, but dealing with being an underfunded program. |
This. Odds are most of you contacts tomorrow won't offer or won't offer for a while. Many want to build relationships and see how things play out. Of course if you are an elite top D1 prospect like many of the girls whose parents frequent DCUM, you won't have to worry about this as you will be committed in the next two weeks. But for the others, You may get more calls, emails, etc in coming weeks as coaches update/expand lists once girls commit/they lose interest, etc. There is also a good chance you get offers from schools you don't talk to tomorrow, especially if you aren't committed by Oct 1st. |
Also remember, top 10 teams may only reach out to 30 or 40 girls, while next level teams may be reaching out to 100-200. JMU for instance has a reputation for casting a very wide net. |
I hate people who bring semantics into everything - but I said OTHERS. I’m not talking about top 25 teams (I don’t even want to say that many) but some programs are just lazy at recruiting and take some things for granted. They get a team of smart girls (which is really what it’s all about anyway) and then turn around and have yet another dud of season. Just watch. And also I still think everyone here is expecting their phones to fly off the hook. If you know your teams standing, great. But just take it all with a grain of salt. Also you’ll get lots of spam from schools you’ve registered as a recruit with regarding “future camp dates!” Try to differentiate whether it’s personal or not Good luck. |
