IAD vs DCA

Anonymous
Good to see the dam finally breaking on this one after years of chiding comments I didn’t like Reagan, I grew up here I have spent 40 years of my life here, and I will call it Reagan sometimes and I’ll call it national sometimes, and throw in a Reagan National for kicks. It’s not a marker of where you grew up

Would be nice to see more people calling BWI as Thurgood Marshall though — seems like bwi never really tried to sell the public on it

Meant to have a period after comments. Oops

I grew up in DC. I liked Reagan (though and a progressive democrat now because of Trumpism) and I call it National and would never call it Reagan.

I think the one thing we can all agree on is that BWI sucks.

Maybe I'm too pro-Maryland, but I like BWI. For the few international arrivals it has, customs and immigration is way faster than Dulles. The layout is decent too -- sort of a spoke system so no getting on a train or too long walks.

It also has the highest passenger numbers of the 3 airports in the region, so I guess passengers are voting with their feet also.

I do wish they had reserved parking like IAD and DCA added in the last year. Less stress about finding a space.

You mean Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport 😉. I don’t call National “Reagan.”

Yeah, I wonder how many of the people who insist on calling DCA "Reagan" even know that's the real name of BWI.

Just say you are a petty liberal and you cannot stomach saying Reagan. No biggie.

People like this always make me laugh… is being from here supposed to be exciting? Funny how those from here think they’re superior but I can’t figure out why

+1. But also, I spent my whole life here. Have always called it Reagan.

So you’re under the age of 25. Thanks for sharing.

I am not, but what you mean to say is you weren’t specific with your original post. “If you’re really from here, 50+, you have an aversion to changing with the times, and you like to make people feel excluded for the most petty reasons, then you’d call it National.”

Changing with the times?!

The people of the DMV did not want it to be called Reagan. Members of Congress from around the country did.

So let them call it Reagan. A lot of us don’t.

Yes I do. Or more often, Verizon Center.

Lived here since before MCI was built.

Verizon, sometimes Capitol one. Never MCI. I was here during that period, but I don’t think I really went to anything there until Verizon. Then it got too much for Capitol one.

This reminds me of the old DC Stadium/RFK situation. Equally as stupid.

I suppose I will start calling National by the name of Reagan when people start calling BWI by the name of Marshall.

Do you call he airport in Maryland "Marshall"?

Bonus points if you call BWI Friendship.

The security renovation really improved DCA. Terminals were always so crowded and now you spread out a bit if you are someone who stresses about getting through security in time.

Thank you.

Hint to the OP...NO ONE CALLS IT REAGAN.

DCA or National are sufficient.

+100
If you knew how Reagan treated the air traffic controllers like $hit by firing 11K of them, you’d never refer to any airport as Reagan.

Yes you would. He fired them because it was against the law for them to strike. They should have been fired. The firing was one of the things that allowed the FAA to rebuild to deal with the increase in traffic that came in the late 80s/1990s.

I call IAD Marshall because it was supposed to be named for George Marshall until Dulles died— can’t wait til it gets renamed
