Ok OP, we get it. You hate UVA and you want everyone else to as well.

I was part of a volunteer tour guide group in college that was prestigious.
We had a meeting of alumni on zoom earlier this year because the current members were having issues with motivation and enthusiasm. They said that the pandemic made a lot of students feel less connected to their school and more apt to complain about normal speed bumps that come with college life. We always thought we were superior to paid guides at other colleges. WE loved our school. They were just doing a job. But what happens when you have two years of virtual learning and aren't as enthusiastic about school? |
yep everyone has bad days. I don't expect tour guides to be perfect. They are just kids after all. My kids tour guide at UVA was a third year who had just transferred in from Miami and while he didn't know alot, he was so enthusiastic about being there and the opportunity he had that it was infectious. That said, he didn't tell us much that we didn't already know. |
| Our tour guide said the same thing this past spring! |
Tours are really just about getting a feel for the place anyway. |
| It was never a problem for me when I was there, but in retrospect, I wish I had asked for my guidance. At that age, I didn't know what to expect or ask. I was never turned away from any class I wanted even. I don't think I knew far in advance what I'd sign up for any given semester, but one of my housemates had two older brothers there who often gave us good advice. |
I know you are because UVA guides don't say things like that., My DD really wanted to be one and tried out several times but didn't get it. Also wanted to be an RA but didn't get that either. She did find her niche ultimately. |
|
I'm sure OP is the same kid or parent whose kid didn't get in who posted here that the UVA tour guide asked for tips. That didn't happen either. https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/45/1053218.page.

| Mine doesn’t go to UVA but he and his roommates have all said the job of the advisors at their school is to keep them in school for five or six years. |
Also false because UVA has one of the highest four-year graduation rates at 94.3% |
Maybe you missed the part where I wrote mine does NOT go to UVA. Not false at all. |
Which school ? Or, at least, is this a National University, a regional school, an SLAC, or an LAC ? Thank you in advance for your response. |
Higher grad rates usually equals weak in STEM. |
| I had two kids attend UVA and both say that they were happy with their advisors whenever they called upon them. Which wasn’t very often. Not everyone needs hand holding. Except, that is, the parents of CTCL students whose kids couldn’t get into UVA and who are obsessed with justifying their insistence on going the second and third tier private school route. |

Let's cut these kids a break. Everyone's entitled to have a tough time in college. Kids are allowed to be frustrated as they navigate procedures at college.
Blurting out that "advising sucks" was unfortunate, but if people really hated it at UVA, they wouldn't be there. |
