Agree. And if I get one more DM from a “model” who wants free stuff, I’m going to burst. Sharing a bunch of selfies does not make you a model. The self-centered, self-absorbed culture is so soulless and cringy. I hope that becomes a regret too and not even more the norm. |

Life is just fine without social media. No FB, no IG... and I still have a fulfilling social life.
It's okay to unplug. |
Obviously not a military spouse who moves ever two years. Consider yourself lucky. |
Pretty pictures of books. Like this: https://www.instagram.com/silkreads |
I think this is the point OP is getting at. Not only is it annoying to see but it is having a very negative effect on younger generations who are valuing their image, how many likes they get, how many followers they have, etc over all else. It's a vapid world that leads to anxiety and depression at these young impressionable ages. |
LOL DCUM is social media too. Snob. |
| I just got back from vacation in another city and after seeing fellow tourists’ habits in and around all the attractions, I will say firmly that I effing hate people. Vapid, silly, distracted, and not living in reality. And I have an IG so I’m not anti all social media. |
I wish I could quit DCUM more than I wish I could quit IG. |
That's a fair point. I do, but thank you for the reminder. |
Not even remotely the same thing. |
So pre social media military spouses had no social networks? |
Op here. No I think my main point of all this is literally the style of makeup, dress, and the way women poss so seriously for these Instagram posts. They kind of stare sulking at the camera with too much cheek makeup and weird shadow eye. It’s this kind of super 2020’s Kim kardashian wannabee style that I think will look so dated in 5 years. It’s like the clothes are monotone and every sort of suburban girl in America emulates this look and serious pose and it’s stupid. I can’t explain it more. Anyone know what I mean? I’m a guy by the way. So it’s this: https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/what-is-instagram-face-and-which-celebrities-have-it.html/ “ It’s a young face, of course, with poreless skin and plump, high cheekbones … It looks at you coyly but blankly, as if its owner has taken half a Klonopin and is considering asking you for a private-jet ride to Coachella.” Even housewives I know are doing this stuff. It’s so trendy and stupid and vapid. I feel like everyone thinks they’re a super serious celeb. You’re in Cancun! Wowowow and you’re staring down the camera with all that makeup??? Wowowoow everyone should follow you on insta! You could be in Vogue, except you live in Darnestown with two kids. |
| Social media is a waste of time. No FB. No IG. |
| Why don't we just throw the entire internet away? While we are at it, why not electricity and pipe-borne water as well? We can just gather at the well or bond while making our candles. |
In-person groups were more robust back then. It's a chicken and egg thing, but a very real problem in 2022. |
