Everyone’s an Instagram celebrity

Is anyone else tired of seeing the over the top vanity and self-absorbed nature of instragam pictures, especially from just normal people? You know what I mean? There are so many women who take these sort of serious looking, Kim Kardashian styled pictures where they don’t smile, but try to look like models? They all look the same in this kind monotone color scheme of clothing etc. Like suburban housewives are taking pictures in this style too. When did everyone feel the need to not smile but stare down the camera? I don’t get it. Is it just that our culture has become incredibly narcissistic? Everyone looking serious wearing John Lennon glasses and posing with smokeye eye makeup and too much base on? It’s weird. Why are you so serious? You live in fking rural Maryland or something and think you’re GiGi Hadid?

There is a simple solution to the chapter you wrote on this issue. Simply unfollow them. You’re welcome.

That’s great.

Anyone else annoyed at the trend?

Clearly no one is.

I’m own a social media marketing agency. And yea, I hate that stuff.

The worst, though, are the young guys. 23 year olds who build a massive following of 200k people, and then get upset with me that I can’t make them millions of dollars because most of their followers are either bots or other influencer-wannabes.

Everyone wants to be an Influencer but nobody wants to be a business person. They think the money will just appear.

Sounds like this topic hit a nerve.

I can’t stand all the pouty seriousness of these pictures.

Insta causes teen suicide.

There is something seriously, mentally wrong with you if you still use Instagram.

I'm a small business owner and had someone come in and say they're "Instagram famous" and could they have some free stuff? They literally tried to hand me a list with what they wanted. I laughed and pointed out "If you were famous, you wouldn't have to tell people that." Then I invited her to purchase anything she wanted. Not shocked that she walked out in a huff without anything.

Yes, but for every time this happens, there are people like me who do Bookstagram and have authors flinging free books at them. It's uncomfortable and awkward on my side, believe me.

I don't use Instagram, so I don't really know what you're talking about. Sounds like I made the right decision, though. I do think it's weird that you're so worried about the behavior of others, however.

So are people who fling around that accusation.

This is interesting. Could you add more about how prevalent the bots and wannabes is in most IG influencers' counts? What do you advise them? And what kind of business steps do you want them to make? IDK much about this stuff but do follow some IG accounts and always wondered. Thanks in advance.
