Lol, I'm sure. I'm surprised you didn't blame Brianne Nadeau for this.

Well, he’s got murder + hate crime, so he will be locked up for a very long time.

Unfortunately now all i see/smell in the am in DC is the smell of marijuana and walking strung out zombies. I’ve been in DC 22 years but I think it’s finally time to leave. Bowser and City Council are worse than the Barry years.

The pot smell is really getting me down, too. There's this sense of decline that's totally different from the Anthony Williams years when educated families were celebrated as the key to a normal and functional city. Now it's all strung out street people and perpetually adolescent doggie parents, and both groups reek of marijuana. I was a really evangelical urbanist until a few years ago but I'm starting to wonder if I should look for a new life somewhere else.

Is this being investigated as a hate crime? I haven't heard any evidence pointing that way, and without evidence we can't really make that assumption. I follow the Jewish press very closely and have not seen any mention of this murder in terms of hate crime.

Well, we (the people of DC) voted in the marijuana easements so that's on us. I (stupidly) thought the rules on public smoking would be enforced. That part is on the Mayor + Council. Anyhow, fooled me once so I voted no on mushrooms. I would support any repeal effort for the marijuana laws. Shall we organize? Or as you say, we can leave I guess.

Victim was visibly Jewish, hate crimes against Jews are up 60%. Jewish press is absolutely referring to this as a hate crime. They haven’t located him yet, but it would be surprising to me that it would not be at least charged as a hate crime.

Not because he was Jewish but because he was white.

No, the hate crime would be killing him as a visible Jew, most likely.

Smoking marijuana in public is a minor offence, and I think it was pitched as unfairly targeting certain groups if they enforced it, so they were encouraged not to enforce those laws.

Yeah, PP’s claim that they thought rules on public smoking would be enforced is specious.

So why did they not say this when the law was put to a vote? You know why, because it would not have passed. DP.

How so? (I'm PP). I fully though that the change would be enforced as written. People wouldn't end up with long records for possession, but would be expected to smoke in a non invasive way etc. There is nothing specious about expecting that in civil society one could meet halfway, or enforce law as written and passed. the pendulum has indeed swung to non enforcement of basically anything, and it is making DC a pretty sucky place to live overall - though we have enough $ to live on a quiet backstreet without as much nuisance..know the GGW crowd wants to get rid of these last refuges so we are planning accordingly. And I very much regret my yes vote, my mom did warn me but ao thought the law wasn't too permissive and wanted to give pot heads a fair shake and private enjoying their hobby.

"Nonetheless, it remains a crime under D.C. law for anyone to:
Possess more than two ounces of marijuana
Smoke or consume marijuana on public space (parks, streets, alleys, sidewalks) or anywhere to which the public is invited – including restaurants and bars (even hookah bars and cigar lounges)" -- as per info on the ACLU website. Also illegal to drive a vehicle under the influence, yet there seem to be pot smoke blasting Cheech and Chong mobiles all over town.
