Not every club does this.

Our club is in our gated neighborhood in a beach town.

We frequently let people use our house which means they have to use our account for golf, pool bar & restaurants etc.

We politely let people know that we don’t want any payment etc. Those that do insist on paying have their open invite revoked.

NP. Curious to know why the invite gets revoked when guests insist on paying for themselves?

Because it’s annoying AF. We invited you as our guest. Especially when they ask how much they owe. I don’t know and I am not going to take the time to find out, I said don’t worry about so don’t worry about it.

So someone going to your place to play rounds of golf, dine, drink, and swim, runs up a big tab, and you want to revoke their invite if they want to cover their $500 or so for the weekend?

That’s because you’re rich. If you’re poorer, you see this as an obligation you owe. For a rich person, it’s rounding error on their monthly financials.

Not rich. Just don’t have a lot of expenses.

We built the house to entertain and for people to have fun in. It isn’t entertaining people if you hand them pay .

I’ve been at the center of the action for many younger years in my life and I’m to the point where I just want to see people have a good time while remaining in the background. Picking up the check is an easy way to do it. That’s why we invite friends to the country club. Because they enjoy it and our kids enjoy it. No need to reciprocate and you should never feel like you owe anything.

I truly get a ton of satisfaction out of hosting people and knowing they are having a good time.

Aw, that’s really nice of you! I hope you at least let some folks protest enough that they feel better when accepting your lovely generosity. I would feel rude if I didn’t ask what we owed / ask 2x to confirm. Yes, I would ask 2x so keep that in mind before revoking future invites!

If you are a frequent guest there are many ways of reciprocating without it coming across as an IOU.
