Why is it so hard to find a cleaning person?

This. We clean our home every Saturday morning as a family. It takes 75-90 minutes. Also teaches the kids to take responsibility for themselves.

It’s very time-consuming to clean up after a whole family in a SFH. It’s not impossible, just time-consuming. It would take me 4 hours on a Saturday to really do everything, and since I work all week I would rather not spend all weekend cleaning. And my kids are not quite skilled enough at cleaning in order to really help.

Children will never be skilled enough if you don’t start involving them now. Learn from the poster who makes it a family activity every Saturday morning. And no, sports are actually not more important. You’ll find out.

$32/ hr doesn’t seem high… I’m not even in DC and we pay over $200 for a team of 2. They clean for 2-2.5 hours.

I’m 19:47 from pg 1. 4 women spend 2 hours on my house. There are 4 of us but the kids wouldn’t be as quick or effective as the cleaners yet. DH and I work hard all week. I would rather pay the money and save us all from the 8 hours of cleaning. We still pick up and clean plenty throughout the week to keep it from becoming a mess.

I’m capable of cleaning my own home but I have to do it piecemeal. Coming home and having the whole house clean is worth a lot.

My experience is every company, large or small, starts off strong but falls off eventually.

College kids dorm room are usually so clean. Smart college girls are well educated on cleaning .

Nurses make $32 an hr. Some make less. Are we really saying that cleaning a house is worth more than being a nurse?

I agree it isn’t but unfortunately that is what you need to pay. Cleaning does pay well but there is a stigma to being a cleaner which makes it an unattractive job for most people.

it’s not difficult but it’s time consuming. And it’s not all clean at the same time. Once every 2 weeks my whole house is clean, it brings me joy. I would rather do something with my kid than clean bathrooms.

A lot of nurses make well over $32/hour. That's pretty low. And nurses have a daily commute while house cleaners don't get to charge for the time they spend commuting between houses. I think 32$/hr is low. We pay about 250$ for a cleaning company to do 2.5 hours of cleaning for 2 people. That's closer to $50/hr than what OP is paying.

And a lot of nurses make less. My cousin is an ICU nurse with 2 yrs exp in Baltimore and makes $33. Close friend is an ER nurse with 5 yrs exp in Northern VA and makes $35.
