This is so true. I found my current cleaning lady through a neighbor. She's not great, but good enough. And it's a good feeling knowing the whole house is clean at once. It's easier to maintain and improve than cleaning everything myself and getting worn only half way through. |
| Find someone from Eastern Europe if possible. Different standards of clean. |

+1. It’s a hot labor market right now. I just paid a cleaning team of 2 women 300$ to clean my parents’ house for 2 hours. Yes some Of it went to the cleaning company but that’s well above the 35$/hr you’re paying (that works out to 75$/hr for those who are mathematically challenged.) |

I would ask your neighbors & try to get a good referral.
Plus, I do think that everyone has their own individual standard of clean + that if your standards are a bit high - you may have to do some of the extra work yourself. But at least if you have it cleaned weekly by a housecleaner > then it will be a lot less work than w/o one. I hope you find a good match soon! 🧹🧽🔑 |
+1 This. We clean our home every Saturday morning as a family. It takes 75-90 minutes. Also teaches the kids to take responsibility for themselves. Cleaning services have proliferated because of UMC people being lazy or feeling like they're "above that." |

It's so hard to find because cleaning is actually a skill, and once upon a time most people knew how to do it, they learned from their parents. OK, most women. It was an essential life skill like cooking and sewing. Not anymore.
Ask around and try to find a college student that does it. More likely that they know what they are doing and somewhat enjoy it. I used to clean when I was in college, I thought it's not happening now, but my daughter's roommate works as a cleaning lady. So, there are still kids who do it. Good luck. |
| Hire yourself if you want perfection. Put that $32 in your wallet and enjoy the exercise. |
College kids dorm room are usually so clean. Smart college girls are well educated on cleaning . |
Everyone has a cleaning service and lawn service in the DMV. |
It’s very time-consuming to clean up after a whole family in a SFH. It’s not impossible, just time-consuming. It would take me 4 hours on a Saturday to really do everything, and since I work all week I would rather not spend all weekend cleaning. And my kids are not quite skilled enough at cleaning in order to really help. |
| Do you have a local neighborhood list serv you can post on? That's how I found mine. |
My house would be a pigsty if it was cleaned only every Saturday morning. I pick up and tidy and do dishes and laundry daily but the cleaners are for a more thorough cleaning. I already have a full-time job, I don’t need to add household chores that are possible to outsource. For the same reason, I have a lawn service and a gutter cleaning service even though I could also do those things myself. |
| I clean my own home and I'm NOT impressed nor satisfied with my cleaning skills! |
You think many college students are good at and enjoys cleaning? Did you just arrive to earth? |
