In case anyone wasn't sure of the general attitude of St Mary's parents, this is a good snapshot.

I wonder if any PUBLIC schools in the area restrict or mandate HOW students get to school, such as saying you can’t walk if you live more than x miles from the school. (Hint - they don’t and never would.). But the woke atheist heathens in charge of the city impose different rules on St Marys.

Parent of a PUBLIC (gasp!) school student in Alexandria here. ACPS students who live within a mile of school are walkers, per the ACPS website and guidance. I'm not really sure what this has to do with anyone being "woke" or not believing in (your) God.

I am pretty sure PP tumbled out of their rocker a while ago, though. Enjoy those PTA meetings, St Mary's parents! Oh, and best of luck to the new principal as well.

Oh my. This poster does NOT represent the general attitude of St Marys families. Most of us care about our community and aren’t as self centered as the “I don’t follow the rules, my kid can be a walker if I say so” poster. As parents, we should demonstrate courtesy, adherence to the rules, and be a good steward of the community.

Actually I grew up going to st Mary’s so would like to give the school the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately the cars consistently block intersections, block drive ways, etc. That would be manageable if it were just right near the school, but a large number of families claim their children are “walkers” so they can pick them up from a few blocks away without having to wait in line. These are the parents that have fairly poor behavior. Thanks for your generalization of old town, you seem incredibly mature and neighborly.

Please let the school know what you observe, especially if you are seeing obnoxious behavior or think people are abusing a walker privilege. We are all part of the community and should treat one another with respect.

FYI- not last year, but in previous years the principal has sent out reminders to parents regarding carpool courtesy. That being said, it is difficult to lineup the cars per city guidance and not block any driveways in an urban area. Thankfully, there are very few driveways that are impacted.

I understand it can be an inconvenience and agree PP was out of line with their comments.

Yes- I’m a PP who complained. I’m actually blocks away, far from the line, but a bunch of walker moms pick up in the afternoon on my block and in fact block us all in. They all have their basilica magnets and the kids have the uniforms so there’s no doubt that’s what they’re doing. None of them have old town parking permits, and many have waynewood, etc magnets, too, so they should use the official carpool instead of making their own, unregulated one with no checks

I wasn’t aware that so many st Mary’s families live within the “walker” radius. During the multiple half days last week, I just have seen scores of “walkers” not doing the car line. Interesting.
