People don't quit their job they quit their manager

Sometimes I spend a lot of the day listening to their personal problems, making sure I ask about their family or hobby, on and on. It would be easier if we were in person so that they could make friends with coworkers, but instead it feels like it’s all on me.

I agree this is a really hard part about being a first line manager! But, not being their friend is not to the level of a bad manager that people quit, imo. You're probably fine.

Yes absolutely đź’Ż
People that own the type of small business that I have worked in all seem to have personality disorders.

I quit the toxic work environment (created by manager, perpetuated by team members, and condoned by director).

I quit my job generally because of $. I'm a mercenary. All the companies I've ever worked for are.

I've definitely stayed in a job longer than I should when I have a good manager. Until you've had The Manager From Hell, you don't really understand the difference that a manager makes. I still have flashbacks of how terrible my one manager was.

I work in a very, very complicated area. Unless you are a skilled manager, everything can quickly fall apart. I try hard to be there for my people, but it's also stressful trying to boost morale in a boring, complicated area.

Not for me, I quit my first tech job for a doubling of salary and had a great manager, I have another great manager at my current job but would quit if a better opportunity came up.

This has been my experience.

Sadly true. I have a good manager now and worry about her leaving at some point.

Hello Friends, we had basically a whole team resign due to one assh0le "manager." And that was in the government. It must have been a record to get so many to quit, retire, etc.

Sick disgusting ugly shell of a person.

This. There are some things that even a great manager can’t fix.

I just had an employee quit because she claimed I was a horrible manager. All of her colleagues and I would say it was because she was a horrible employee with a bad attitude and couldn’t take any constructive feedback, so she turned in her resignation and left. Coincidentally she claimed her last manager was horrible as well, and I have no doubt that her next one will also be just as bad (in her own mind).

I left a decent manager (very pleasant, but didn't stick up for me against her a--hole boss) for a great one.
