Anyone have an African-American OB they like? Where?

People want to know who to avoid. Who was it?

If I wasn’t high-risk, I’d consider a home birth with the best support team.

It was a long, time ago, but I really liked Dr. Bowles-Johnson at G'town.

Dr. Gloria Bowles-Johnson delivered both of my children at Georgetown. I've seen complaints about her on DCUM (but then again who doesn't DCUM complain about?) but I love her and would trust her completely.

I am white, but have seen her 3 times (just moved to CWC in Bethesda where she is) and really liked her. Sometimes I feel guilty as a white person going to a non-white provider because I feel like I am talking a slot of a woman of color.

Brenda Baffour-Addo is a midwife at WHC - she delivered my first. And Dr. Walker is my OB at Kaiser who I would recommend.

+1000!!! Came on here to post this. Absolutely LOVE Dr. Laurin - CWC Rockville and Germantown. Her skill, bedside manner and compassion are unmatched. She closely monitored me and noticed that my BP was rising and I had protein in my urine so convinced me to do an induction a year ago when I had my son. It was the right decision and I had a smooth vaginal delivery (she was on vacation that week and didn't end up delivering me, but still had a very positive experience). She is the best!!

Awesome doc who walked in, assessed the situation, took over, and had him out fast. Previous doc on call had been waffling on what to do while my mom (a nurse) was watching the monitors and starting to get panicked no one was helping/seemed aware during the shift change.

Sorry you had a bad experience, OP.

Dr. Johnson is indeed great but no longer doing OB. Just gyn.

Huge second. I was seeing someone else at that practice who was also good but Dr Nwankwo was the one who did my induction and she was incredible when I was having all kinds of issues (mainly mental health related, I have sever medical anxiety). I saw her postpartum for a few checkups and she was great. So kind and compassionate. I plan on seeing her if/when I have another baby.

Dr. Nwankwo was the doctor who guided me through a miscarriage and is now one of the OBs I see at CWC for my current pregnancy. She's not particularly warm and fuzzy but she's direct (in a good way) and capable. At CWC you get whoever is on call for your delivery but I will be very happy if I get Dr. Nwankwo.

If you have Kaiser, Dr. Maduforo in Alexandria is great

I saw her in practice. Nice lady.

Dr. Coates delivered one of my children. She’s wonderful.

Andrea Williams at VHC. Saw her once during my prenatal appointments (you rotate at this practice), she was the on-call OB who delivered my son very recently. I found her vibe very calming. She also delivered my neighbor's kid and quickly resolved a tricky post-birth hemorrhage situation.

Second Dr. King-love her. And, I'm convinced she saved my baby's life.

+2 she was on duty when I delivered and was awesome. Great bedside manner too. Highly recommend.
