Anyone have an African-American OB they like? Where?

Dr. Lima Redhead. She's awesome! Absolutely loved her during my pregnancy/birth.

Dr. Tamara Coates in Silver Spring. She delivered DS2 and was very competent with a great bedside manner.

Huge second. I was seeing someone else at that practice who was also good but Dr Nwankwo was the one who did my induction and she was incredible when I was having all kinds of issues (mainly mental health related, I have sever medical anxiety). I saw her postpartum for a few checkups and she was great. So kind and compassionate. I plan on seeing her if/when I have another baby.

I wish I had done this. I felt dismissed, and sometimes very awkward with some OBs and unfortunately, that dismissiveness almost cost me my life. I ended up with HELPP and I kept asking questions. Thank God my high risk OB stepped in and saved the day. My first experience was just as scary but I had an amazing white OB and she was my superhero. My kids were 10 years apart and I am happy I am old and done. This was a very stressful time.

I went to Foxhall and also found Dr. Lightfoote very dismissive. My primary doctor, and thankfully the one on call when I delivered, was Dr. Shawn Davis-Wilensky. I would follow her to the ends of the earth. I had a very scary delivery that turned into an emergency C section and she was amazing throughout it all (not to mention for years prior). I had to switch practices due to insurances changes, but I'm at the point where I would pay out of pocket to keep seeing her.

Dr ramata niang delivered my second. It was a scary precipitous labor with cord knots and she was amazing. I felt so comforted by her and she helped me stay calm. She was not my Dr but was affiliated at my drs office, I had never met her before but was very grateful to have her that day. She is African not AA if that matters to you.

Dr. Johnson at Reiter Hill delivered my first baby. He was in distress with the cord around his neck and deceleration, and she yanked that kid out like a complete ninja. Awesome doc who walked in, assessed the situation, took over, and had him out fast. Previous doc on call had been waffling on what to do while my mom (a nurse) was watching the monitors and starting to get panicked no one was helping/seemed aware during the shift change.

Sorry you had a bad experience, OP.
