In my first pregnancy my OB made a racist comment that really took away from the birth experience. Gearing up to get pregnant again and just looking for something more peaceful.

| Dr Jackson at Reiter Hill is really good. People on here complain about RH but I’ve had positive experiences. There are several Black OBs there but I saw Dr Jackson the most during my last pregnancy. I see her in the DC office but I think she also goes to the Falls Church office. |

I saw several Black midwives at GW but I know that practice has had a lot of staffing/scheduling issues recently and the people I saw were nurse midwives, not OBs, so I'm not sure that will suit your needs.
I'm sorry that happened to you, OP. Hoping you have a better experience this time. |

| I’m white but I go to Foxhall and there is a black doctor there. Lightfoot. To be honest I don’t particularly like her. She was a bit cold and dismissive to me the one time I saw her. But you may have a different reaction. And all the doctors at foxhall seem good so she probably is too. And if I were black I would try to find a black ob gyn. I think there was a study showing better outcomes for black mothers who had black ob gyns. |

Keep in mind that it might be someone different for delivery. I used the WHC OBs and I’d never met the doctor who actually did the delivery. But they were all fine.
To be honest the nurses and anesthesiologist were more important to me. But I understand it depends on the birth. |
PS my OB was Asian, my anesthesiologist was black and the nurses were a mix. It was definitely a diverse team - idk if it would be possible or make sense to look at the diversity of the overall team. I’m white so I appreciate that I don’t experience any of it the same way. |

In case you'd consider a birth center birth - http://www.birthcare.org/ is great. You need to get your own birth assistant, who helps you during delivery, much like a nurse would - sure you could find an AA person you like for this. Marsha Jackson delivered my first and was great. I see another black midwife is now working with them.
You could also look into doulas, if you want a consistent support person to be with you. |
