Abortion and DC Statehood

Totally agree with this. About the best POSSIBLE outcome for Washington DC would be to retrocede and become a city in the State of Maryland.

DC doesn’t want that and neither does Maryland, so it’s not a possible outcome.

The Congress will never vote for statehood. So folks can continue to bang on their plastic tar drums for statehood and elect comically useless DC “shadow” representatives — or they can pursue some other path to get real representation in Congress. In the meantime, it’s way past time for Norton to retire. Even most Democrats on the Hill don’t like her, when they pause to give her any thought at all.

Not even the Democrats seem to care about abortion that much anymore. It seems odd, but that’s the case. Women’s organizations have been more focused on DEI and pronouns rather than the big picture in recent years. And most Americans are going to care more this fall about the price of gas and groceries than “choice.” So long as the extreme right doesn’t overplay their hand and start locking women up, America — unfortunately — is likely to move on.

This is what I’m afraid of. As a DC resident, I do NOT want abortion taken away by Congress, and am ready to fight if they think about it.
