Abortion and DC Statehood

If abortion is now left up to the states, DC is not a state. If Congress starts messing with abortion in DC, will this finally be the impetus to give us statehood?? I’m ready to rise up if Congress reduces the rights we want as residents of DC.

So your question is, will Congress work toward granting DC statehood so we can ensure that abortion is safe and legal? Or your question is, now that the SC has overturned Roe, will Congress stop using DC as a political pawn and work toward giving us statehood because the Republicans would like 2 more almost certain (D) Senators?

No. Norton has had decades to do this and still she somehow is our rep. We need meaningful change.

Yes, you're exactly right. As soon as the GQP owns the White House, House and Senate, there will be no limiting their meddling in DC affairs. No legal MJ, no Head Start, no gun laws, no nothing! You better buckle up because this is gonna be one rough ride.

I wish MD would get off its ass and legalize MJ with a commercial setup so DC refugees can easily integrate in MD. Because moving to VA isn't an option.

Not as long as Joe Biden is president. Biden simply does not care enough about DC statehood to spend political capital on it and Democrats ALWAYS ALWAYS sell out the District when it comes to appropriations deals. They literally steal our three electoral votes.

EHN really doesn't have much to do with it. There are a variety of ways to add a state, but the simplest would be passing legislation in Congress. As long as Biden won't nuke the filibuster, DC won't become a state as the other methods, such as a constitutional amendment would be much more difficult.

You all aren't looking at this from the standpoint of "if Dems do X, does Y happen as a result". Its like the people who want Dems to pack the Court, you're going to piss off people and lose seats as a result.
