favorite restaurant - specific twist in my question

Rocklands and Bangkok 54
We live out of the area and these are the 2 places our family misses. A few weeks ago I detoured on a business trip that had me driving past DC and I picked up Rocklands. My kids and DH were so excited when I got home!

Big Greek Cafe is decent. Moby Dick is meh, IMO. Cava used to be better. We have delicious Ethiopian options but I can’t name chains. Sushi Jin is great but one can find good sushi outside of DC.

I’ve lived in DC for 15 years and have rarely been blown away by the food, which is kind of sad because I’m from flyover country.

Woodlands in Fairfax no longer exists? I’ve been out of the country for a while but I’ll be back in a few weeks and this makes me want to cry.

I would kill for a Franklin Barbecue, Salt Lick, Torchy’s Tacos, or Lone Star Kolache. Hell, I even miss Taco Cabana. I honestly haven’t eaten anything here where I’d kill to see it somewhere else. I was excited about District Taco the first few times I had it, but it’s just ok. There are more exciting and interesting Taco places, even here.

I heard all the hype about Moby Dick and finally tried it a couple years ago. I didn’t think it was that great. It wasn’t bad, but definitely didn’t knock my socks off.

+3 Plus it is offensively overpriced.

My brother lives in San Francisco and he had never heard of it.

This is a good one! Also, related but different: pupusas. Hard to find a good pupusa outside the dmv.

NYC begs to differ with both of these.

Where in NYC does one get good pupusas? I live there now and have been looking for a place comparable to the ones here.

Ummmm, then you haven been to about a dozen cities in California or Houston.

You are a true dolt.

Many areas of the country would greatly benefit from The Italian Store. Not NY/NJ, Boston, and the rest of the northeast, but anywhere where the locals regularly go to Subway to get a sub.

Also, The Greek Deli. If I could clone Kostas, I'd be doing a great service to humanity.

Finally, Little Serow. Truly unique (at least in my experience). If there are other places like it, I'd love to know about them.

It's still there! I ate there last week. The one in Langley closed

I’ve said for years that someone could make a fortune with a few Taco Cabana franchises in DC. It’s cheap fast food tacos in Texas, but much better than District Taco. Drive through, open 24 hours — it would be a license to print money.

I’ve decided that District Taco makes their food bland on purpose, because they think that’s their audience, but they don’t seem to realize that their missing out on all the people that love real tacos and would eat there once a week if it was really good.

Love Peruvian chicken. Best places in Springfield and Merrifield?

OMG no. Their tacos are flavorless and awful.
