I believe the article was very poorly written but I am still in shock at what it does say and show.

This is a very bizarre article. And are the students photographed minors? Did the newspaper get permission from their parents to publish their photos and details about them smoking pot and drinking tequila?

Very progressive to interview gang members. They have video of the fight but won't share it with police because they don't "trust" them and think the police should have fired their guns to disperse the brawl.

That article is the perfect reflection of Alexandria naivete/intentional misinformation. The writer really does not think there is a remote possibility that gangs in Alexandria exist. I know, as I have spoken to him about it, and he has bought the city leadership's mantra that they do not. People here really think these kids just need mental health counselors. Canek Aguirre has said gangs do not exist here, and it is racist to think otherwise. What I really think is going on, is admitting that certain neighborhoods of affordable housing have gangs will undercut and greatly diminish the push to build affordable housing that is making some people in this City very wealthy. So, we have the gaslit and the nefarious - then those of us who live in reality and fear cancellation and social retribution.

How can you miss the the MS13 and 8th Street graffiti scrawled in the northern area of Del Ray? You just have to walk along the trails and it's easily spotted. I had no idea there were politicians and reporters denying the existence of criminal gangs. I'm assuming they grew up rich and went to private schools?

No, they are transplants from Los Angeles controlled by "community groups" whose message would be completely undermined if we openly acknowledged there are violent street gangs operating in Arlandria and in our schools. The project planned to build two high rises of 425 affordable housing units in the heart of the gang area would not sail through city council - so we just get told gangs are made-up and it is racist to say otherwise.

How can 30, 40, 50, more students leave a building and you as a school do nothing about it?

Who will get fired and how quickly will it happen?

What are they supposed to do, post armed guards at every door? Sure. Enjoy your tax increase.

Is denying gangs in Alexandria a new thing? The Latino gangs have always been pretty open with their street presence, certainly as long as I lived there. I don't anymore. They stuck out like you'd have to be blind not to recognize them.

How can anyone deny there are Salvadoran gangs when 99% of the kids in the photo of the article are holding up 18th street signals. Holy $hit. It’s like an Onion article.

Yes, shepherded with the defund the police movement and removing SROs from the schools. Unfortunately, not all that funny to someone living here rounded in reality. But many really think denying reality will make it all go away.

It has been highly rated for years in both sport and academics. I'm not sure about the past few years, but the school does serve a large mix of students from all socio-economic backgrounds. It is the biggest high school in Virginia (in terms of the # of students).

It is 10/10 for white, UMC students.

Half the school is farms and it's rated 2 out of 10

Repulsive comment. The kid died.

Exactly. Someone here has a one track mind focused only on those mean guns. Zero concern about the people.

Anonymous wrote:Wow. A student is murdered during the school day when SOLs are taking place and you are glad that it's not a gun and a knife? A child is dead. I'm an ACPS parent of two students and I live walking distance to ACHS. I am WFH today and I am absolutely heartbroken and sick. This could be any of our children. If you think as a bystander they couldn't be shot or stabbed, you are wrong. Yes, it appears to be certain kids, maybe involved in crime or not, but a child is dead. We need to enact some common sense policies so this doesn't happen again. Thoughts and prayers are not enough. G-d watch over and protect this child's parents and family.

1) most stabbings aren’t fatal.
2) knives reduce the possibility that an innocent bystander will be killed

You’ll never, ever, ever stop people from killing each other, but if you can keep the means which they do it from being something that can accidentally kill bystanders, then that’s a net-positive. People are always going to kill each other. But at least with a knife or other close range weapon, they won’t inadvertently kill someone many feet or more away.

Ban cars, especially white vans.

Wow, a 1/10 in equity. Tells you a lot about progressive Alexandria.

Progressives in Alexandria don't give a rat's tail about this. It will never be their children caught up in this and they can continue to virtue signal about these "kids" needing after school programs.

Mara Salvatrucha, 18th St gang, Ms 13. Once you're jumped in you never jump out. These gangs are where some kids go while mom and dad work all day and night.
