Bullis Expansion?

Anonymous
I know many very happy Bullis families and they're educated consumers. I don't get the constant negativity on here but it gets old.

It’s remarkable that they still have the same board chair as they did during that fiasco.

.
Which, contrary to what some Bullis parents want to believe, is exactly why it's the same school it always has been.

Sorry Prep parent, that you just lost the IAC championship again to Bullis. Leave it on the field.

Bizarre post. Proves pp’s point.

As a Bullis parent, I agree that poster is the type of parent/family that gives the school a bad name. Fortunately there are many wonderful families at the school and the obnoxious entitled ones are not as many as this forum would have you think.

While I agree, I would guess the poster is probably a kid, most likely on the lacrosse team. Don't get too wrapped up in it.

Whether or not there are, in your opinion, many wonderful families at the school is really irrelevant to the issue. The Post article clearly documented the financial shenanigans that were going on and that board leadership both enabled and benefited from. The fact that the same board leadership is still in place is the issue, and when push comes to shove it will become apparent to the many wonderful families what the school is all about.

Perhaps some. Some that I know don’t care about that, because they love the teachers and the experience their kids have. We’ve been there for 5 years and the families I know haven’t left. Now, if there is a mass upheaval and all the teachers start leaving, they are in big trouble.

What are the better options for academics? All is see are kids going to Stanford, Harvard, NYU, Yale, Columbia, etc. Can you kindly explain?

We are a happy Bullis family who left our W public because of the sh*tshow that was Covid. We have no intention of returning to public, as Bullis is so much better in terms of education.

The current lower school students are in a building designed for older students. The new HOS wants a building designed and built for students in the primary grades.

All of the above. Another family who left a W to attend Bullis. New Head is awesome, expanded number of teachers, expanded number of counselors, etc. Current lower school building was never built for lower school students. New Head wants to change that, appropriately so

We are a happy Bullis family, our kids have a diverse group of friends from all over - MoCo, PG, VA, DC, different socioeconomic backgrounds, different interests (our kids do not do sports), but they all value a strong education

We ended up choosing Norwood because we felt that Norwood has more of an emphasis on the younger grades. We know another family who made the same choice for the same reason.

It will be interesting to see how Bullis’s lower school evolves. We felt that the emphasis seemed to be more on the middle and high school.

Do either of them use the science of reading to inform their curriculums?

Great choice. Norwood does a great job. Most k-12 schools just can't compare (it's not just Bullis) to the investment/focus of a k-8 school on the non-HS grades.

Bullis already has pretty impressive facilities. When we went for the second visit, there were things that the facilities just couldn't make up for. One, the head of school totally creeped me out. He wreaked of cigarette smoke, was a close talker, and gave me a used car salesman vibe.

During the reception, it was extremely segregated to the point where my daughter even pointed out that the Black families were huddled together in the corner while the rest of the families chatted like they were long lost friends. We intentionally moved to the middle of the room to try and meet people, and people talked past us.

Then, while taking a second look at the lower school, we approached the Spanish teacher. My daughter announced that Spanish was one of her favorite subjects. The teacher lowered her voice and said, "Spanish here isn't very good."

My daughter and I both wanted to like Bullis because the facilities are really impressive (and it was her safety school when she'd been waitlisted at her top choice). But the Spanish teacher's odd comment had my kid in tears driving home.

Luckily, my kid got off the waiting list at her first choice the day contracts were due so we didn't have to try and make it work. I love that parents love this school, but for us - the flash was just not enough to make up for some of the other stuff.

Looks like they are looking to build a new lower school and increase enrollment. Guess they are really seeing an increase in demand.

Bullis School recently released all of its college matriculation information. Not only was the absolute transparency fully embraced and appreciated by the public, it revealed off the charts admissions to excellent top schools.

As a result, people are now saying Bullis is a “big three” although some people don’t care about that label as it can be perceived as pretentious.

Of course, demand is up. I’m not surprised by this at all.

I have no doubt they will be able to fill the classes, but I think it will remain a safety school and a school that is known for its athletics. Being able to admit more kids won't raise the demand.

Will you please stop. No one is saying Bullis is a “big 3” except for you. We love Bullis and think our DC is getting a great education. We were also impressed with the transparency and results for this year’s college admits, but posts like this just look stupid and bring out the haters.
