Agree this is a problem. OP referenced his downtime, not that the co-worker was using company time for his side hustle.

My company requires approval for any secondary employment and signed agreement that it won't compete with company's business and won't happen on company time. They don't really care if you're selling MLM or have an Etsy shop or work retail on the weekends. Your extra job can't be with a competitor or going after similar clients or using company IP, though.

Your company is a terrible one I would recommend leave ASAP , they should cover this in your company employment agreement not approve each job wtf

That said, it isn't that hard to include it in an employment contract. My tech employer does, it is EXTREMELY clear you cannot have a 2nd job and any money-making side gigs have to be approved through them first as a condition of your offer.

I think this is a troll because if you actually were in a position to have a vested interest in this, you'd know the answer already.

Good luck enforcing that in VA!

I’m a nanny with 3 jobs. I live in California and earn $95k but because of taxes I barely take home $66. My other two jobs are cash and I’ve made $18k so far in 2022. Life is expensive, man. I work super hard oct-May then take time off form my side hustles and only work my main job.

Wow I always had at least 2 jobs between the ages of 30 and 37. I didn't have kids and I had been laid off before so I wanted to hedge my bets. Also allowed me to save up money so that when I had a kid I could take 2 full years off. Totally worth it.

Good thing I don't now and have never cared what nosey coworkers think I should do with my downtime.

I swear people come up with new sh to be offended by everyday. OP why do you care if I work 10-12hrs PT as a fitness instructor before/after work to help offset DDs dental and college expense? It doesn't sound like your spending your downtime relaxing if you're ranting about other people's PT jobs. Maybe you should try yoga.

This non sequitur really gave me a belly laugh. Thank you I realize it’s either one of those weird things where it got posted to the wrong thread or this actually means something in regard to the topic on this thread and I just don’t understand it. But either way it made me laugh.

I worked two jobs for a while. It was to make more money. If the first job paid more, maybe the employee wouldn't have to work a second job.

If there was universal healthcare...

If there was money to care for elders...

If there was national daycare...

But there isn't so you have to self-fund and not everyone makes $200k a year.

You must be a troll if you have to ask this.

When I see double dipping I think about someone eating and double dipping on the Dip
