So many OOS kids, I’m still amazed by that. My DD met people from Texas, Mass, Florida, CA, and more. As for 81, I agree - at least it’s a beautiful drive though. All those redbud trees! |
DP. We got there Friday night (freezing!) and were there on Sat - such wacky weather! But very pretty on the drive home later Saturday. That’s April for you. |
DP. It’s not a safety for anyone. |
DP. Yes! I have another kid at JMU who used the Mega Bus (I think it’s called the Virginia Breeze?) when he was a freshman and had no car. It saves all of us a lot of time in the road. My DD will use it too - there’s also an Amtrak train from Roanoke which sounds fun too. |
I wonder why it’s 5 hours if there are no stops? Should be four. DP |
Be careful to look at the stats as a range not a cut off and also by major. As I have reported before, my high stat child was waitlisted for CS. If you are a high stat kid and actually really want to go to VT for CS, you better apply ED - that is what we were told. Now how many 1600-range SAT kids want to apply to VT ED is another matter. Also if you look at the data, 90% of CS spots are offered OOS. It is a major they can get higher revenue from. So be careful if you are from VA and thinking CS is a viable option - not only will your high score potentially not help you, they are possibly likely to hurt you. Unless you go ED. |
Same for engineering. Someone up thread commented on how many OOS people they ran into. I think many in state kids were WL. That's our NOVA experience and of friends and neighbors. |
What do you do after getting an undergraduate degree in Geography? Is it more about Geology? |
Anyone care to elaborate? |
It tends to be more about geospatial data analysis, environmental analysis. The major is in the College of Natural Resources and Environment. |
They are very service oriented, "Ut Prosim" (that we may serve) is their motto. They are also currently very focused on growing their enrollment of 1st Gen and URM. |
The MegaBus route is not a non-stop trip from Blacksburg to Dulles; it also includes other stops, e.g. Harrisonburg (JMU) and Lexington (VMI, W&L). |
No, not Geology at all. With a Geography degree you can be a cartographer, GIS specialist, geospatial analyst, imagery analyst, geopolitical analyst, teacher, and more. I worked in the IC. |

Don't know that this is accurate. I know kids that got in to UMD, PSU, and Pitt, but not VT. It's a great culture and a special place for those that call it home. |
