This is Op. We are known atheists and this family has a HUGE family that are likely giving these types of things. I’d rather give money or nothing

Yeah ignore the pp. Presumably the child already has a (if not multiple) bible and regardless it would be odd for you as a family friend to gift one. Money is perfectly appropriate.

As far as gifts you can just give cash. For my first communion, my mom's Catholic family gave cash or bonds; my dad's family gave various presents - one aunt and uncle gave me some bath & bodyworks products which were not considered appropriate lol.

I would say a card (no cash necessary). My kids only received gifts/cash from close family members
