I pay $1500 in a rent controlled apartment in a different neighborhood in the city. I only moved in ten years ago. If they moved in 15 years ago they’re probably paying under $1k.

In one of their videos they say they are paying $4,500/month in rent.

The kids might be on scholarships to the music school. That would be a crazy amount of money for the school and private lessons for that many kids.

They moved there during the pandemic.

Look what happened with the Duggars. America was obsessed with them until their dirty laundry came out and what dirty laundry it was! Barf.

This family gives me a different vibe. They didn't used to be crammed in a small living space, but have musically talented kids and needed to find them a way to continue to grow musically. I applaud the parents for finding a way to make it work so the kids could attend one of the best music conservatives in the country. The older ones are still at home, but have serious studies at the conservatory. They live at home because th COL in SF is outrageous.

I understand that the girls aren't required to wear dresses, but it was expected at a fundie church they used to be members of in San Diego. They left that church, but the girls still feel more comfortable in dresses.

I follow them and it seems they started IG and YouTube to share music performances. That seems normal. They now share more about their family because people kept asking.

I mean, I agree they do appear talented, but it was also the mom's life goal to have them play string instruments. She specifically cites in one of her videos growing up around Chinese immigrants who would make their kids practice violin for hours a day, practice even if they had a playdate, NO EXCUSES, as a model for how to raise her own kids. You can agree that "works" or not, but it's not like she necessarily had some phenom on her hands she helped chase the dream; the parents pursued this, for not one, but ALL of their kids, some might say to the detriment of other things like academic education or their other interests. What if one is a gifted painter? We'll never know, they're doing the string instrument thing. I find that very odd and stifling.

I'd like to know what kind of fundie they are/were.

It’s extremely stifling. And selfish. I feel sorry for the kids. Basically they have no option other than to play a string instrument (and piano).

And if at some point you decide maybe you want to focus on your education, maybe at 18 you don't want to sleep on a fold out bunkbed and share a room with five siblings, or you don't want to busk or wear matching outfits-then you are destroying the family because your parents are monitizing the group of you.

I just can’t imagine living this life. These kids probably have no friends? They certainly aren’t having a friend over after school. Their whole world is their immediate family.

I wonder what neighbors have to say about this clan…

In one post she mentions that the upstairs(?) apartment is for sale (they “have to” remove the sign from the balcony when they perform and take their incessant videos) so I’m guessing they hated them and are desperate to move…

The difference is the Chinese immigrants sacrifice everything for their kids. These selfish weirdos are sacrificing their kids for any amount of fame

Just checked out their IG and it's so cringeworthy. The adults apparently spend an inordinate amount of time creating Tik Toks, etc. and the children seem to have an insular, controlled existence. No doubt there is a tremendous dysfunction under the surface.

+completely agree. I admit to being part of the problem. The kids are very cute and fun to watch. The mom's Tik Tok performances are cringy. I went down the rabbit hole and noted when they transformed on Insta from a regular wacky insta family to full on performers. It's creepy how the younger kids have exactly the same expressions while performing-all the time, they never crack.

Mom recently posted a video responding to the question "what if one of your kids didn't want to do music?" Her answer was basically that she could not imagine a world in which a kid growing up in their family wouldn't want to play music, so good luck to the kids, I hope they like music. Also the family is moving to NYC.

I can think of at least two families that I seriously judged — one for pushing her kid into endless acting/drama and other activities, and the other for doing a rigid job play dates until an hour practicing piano and extra math class. But you know what? They both turned out fine, and honestly are probably better balanced mental health wise than my wreck of a kid that I let play and have fun and choose her own choice. Stuff is very hard wired and some of these parents who are super type A or attention seeking have kids that are the same way, so if often works out just fine.

I think she is certifiable the kids don’t look or act normal and the husband holy crap get out and get a real job buddy

Yeah, I can't even imagine what a high level of control you have to exert over your kids to get all those videos.
