It's a mark of higher intelligence.

Marker of low intelligence...the kids are future sheep not captains of industry.

Silver spring and TP too! Downcounty for the win! Will be a good experiment for the next spike- I wager a lot more cases upcounty.

You sound too gleeful at this prospect which by the way won’t turn out. Places with crazy mandates (Los angeles) had high cases and higher than neighboring areas with no mandates. It really doesn’t make a difference. The virus ebbs and flows and spikes and plummets and there isn’t much mandates do. But you know this. You just like the little dopamine hit from feeling better than others

How would you feel about your 5-year old using a pacifier, because it made him "feel safe?" This is all nonsense, and evidence, I think of serious damage done to the psyche of these kids. We are raising a generation to be afraid of their own shadows. There is nothing good or healthy about this.

I think it depends on the age or situation. I could see this being an issue for a 4 or 5 year old who had minimal socialization in a pre-covid environment. I posted earlier about my 2nd grader choosing to mask. I'm not worried in the slightest. He and his good friends are still more comfortable in masks but I know it will never get to the point where he's the only masker in the room.

When he was 5 he slept in our bed quite often. Plenty of people would say this was a big problem. A good friend who had much older kids told me to let it happen because he won't be graduating from high school still sleeping in our bed. It was very good advice.

I'm hoping this wasn't your intention, but this kind of divisive nonsense is the last thing we need right now. This isn't a game. You can focus solely on COVID if you choose to, and insist that there are no downsides to indefinite masking of children all day long. Have at it.

But, for the love of god, respect people who take a broader view of public health and who have more expertise in mental health and children's development than you do. Our brains evolved to have a specific region largely for facial recognition. Was that because seeing faces is unimportant for humans? How do you explain it?

most people in public health favor mask use now except for contrarians

Yes. This is my feeling too. We’ve hammered into kids that they have to wear masks for two years. We need to help them understand it’s okay to not. And for kids who are doing it because they are anxious or they want to feel safe or they are middle or high schoolers and want to hide behind masks — we are not setting them up for living in the real world.

If kids are doing it for this reason - literally to hide behind masks - I would be extremely concerned as a parent. There is not a positive sign about the child's mental health state.

Or I’m raising an empath who is able to think of someone else than himself. Also, the evidence that masks, seatbelts and helmets etc protect people is there. As is evidence that a mild case of Covid could have devastating long term health consequences for anyone.

Thank you for raising a compassionate kid unlike the rest who are raising future Brett Kavanaughs

My Rockville HS student says vast majority of students still mask all day, and his teachers are about 50/50.
Also, I’ve had had two interactions with health care this week — NIH blood donation center and my Gyn office and both of those places are still full-on masking and Covid protocols.

99% of DCUM would give anything for their child to grow up to be a SC justice. Get over yourself, PP.

My kids say 75% of the class are still masked. This is middle school.

Oh yes, those contrarians at the CDC...

I think it’s about 50% keep it on at my kids bethesda ES. I see more masking among the older kids than younger ones.

Amen.
I swear some people on this board choose to be miserable and want everyone else to be miserable too

Said the bully parent who doesn't have kids in MCPS and doesn't care if anyone gets covid.

Smart kid.

My ES kids are choosing to wear theirs as well. I haven't pushed one way or the other. Everyone in our family is fully vaccinated and low risk overall. They feel like they're doing something to help others, which is a trait we'd like to encourage. It's their figurative war effort.

My kids report they everyone at their school, teachers included, are wearing masks at our Title I, DCC school.
