I'd take the shorter season and better fruit. The pink cara cara have been very good this year. The rind of teh sumos is thicker and waxier too- much harder to peel than they used to be. It's disappointing - seems this happens with every fruit, it gets super popular and then drops in quality.
Honey crisps are totally worth it- specially since Macintosh have become so so mushy and organic Granny Smith arent as sour as conventional. Unless you can get orchard apples, honey crisps are the best grocery store apples. BUT stone fruit season is coming so WOOHOO! should have apricots in a few weeks!
Apricots in a few weeks?! Where do you live? We only get them in July. They haven't even bloomed yet, that's around Easter.
