Thoughts on fat-free half and half

Corn syrup isn't bad for you? I have no idea about the reat of them, since I'm not a chemist (which should tell you something right there), but I definitely try to avoid corn syrup.

OP, a good rule of thumb for eating healthy is the fewer ingredients, the better. Half and half has one. The fat free stuff has at least 10, many of which appear to be synthetic. 'Nuff said.

I don't love corn syrup either but I'm not sure there is a big advantage to avoiding corn syrup by drinking more cream.

OP here. WOW. Gotta love DCUM. This issue was on my mind and I thought "why not post" but was shocked that I got more than a response or two! Thanks everyone--I truly appreciate your various opinions. After thinking about people's views and advice it was with great disdain that I stared at the fat free half and half sitting on the refrigerator shelf. I gave it dirty looks and regretted not getting the real stuff. I don't drink soda or consume fake sugars so why go down this road, though I did half convince myself that since I otherwise have such a healthful, whole diet that I can tolerate a little fake stuff in the name of calorie and saturated fat reduction. By the same token, I don't have much saturated fat in my diet and when I do, I want it to be super tasty.

So go to hell, fat free creamer!

Of course, now I have a new dilemma. Do I toss the unopened container or poison myself with it until it runs out. Ah, a new topic for a new thread.

It is SO not a topic for a new thread. Time to move on.

Well, no, by definition it has two. It's half cream, half milk. All dairy but still two ingredients.

Well, no, by definition it's one. When it comes out of the cow, it's one substance. We turn it into two, but it starts as one. Unless you know of a cow with one udder for cream, and one udder for milk.

I'm another one who lost weight when cutting out the artificial sweeteners. I used to drink 2-3 diet cokes a day. When I switched to regular, boom. Lost over 10 pounds. It was amazing.

Duh, I'm sure it was meant as a joke.

Let's agree to disagree.

True, gave up splenda and diet sodas at the beginning of the year and changed NOTHING else and I've lost 6lbs. And I love my REAL half and half.

Really? Interesting. I LOVE coffee with regular sugar and half and half but for the (supposed) sake of my waistline I use Splenda and skim milk. Yes, I've seen a difference but I'm also on Weight Watchers right now so there are lots of other factors going on. (Though from a "points" standpoint, the Splenda and skim milk are certainly a LOT less than the half and half and real sugar...I couldn't afford those.) Sometimes I do wonder if those two Splenda a day are slowly killing me...

NEWS FLASH. Sugar has no fat. The combination of sugar with butter, cream, other cooking oils that makes sugar-sweetened foods fattening. By accident, I bought some ice cream that was lower in fat. It was awful. Haven't you noticed that when something is sugar free or fat free it doesn't satisfy your craving for sweets? Have real half and half and, unless you're using a quart every day, you're not going to gain any weight.

As an aside, why is it that the more taken out--fat, sugar, or salt free--the more expensive the product?

It's fake food. Go for the real stuff.
