Dog parks for the most part aren't safe for dogs. There are too many lazy owners and aggressive/timid/dogs that don't like other dogs for it to be safe. Owners think all dogs enjoy interacting with strange dogs but that isn't true. I wouldn't take my dog to playground while kids are playing but, I think it is ok if no one is around. Do we really have to re-hash this topic over and over? |
Yes, clearly we do need to rehash this because you still aren’t getting it. I do not want your dog peeing and pooping in the playground even if no kids are present. Playgrounds are NOT for dogs. Anytime. Period. |
There is my my city - two dog parks (one for small dogs and one for larger dogs) as well as several acres of lawn where dogs are allowed but only on leashes. Two gated playgrounds: one for toddlers and one for older kids with signs that say “no dogs allowed in the gated playground”. This is all in the same park. And people still run their dogs off leash on the lawns and bring their dogs to play in the enclosed playground. Kids are never in the dog parks. Dogs are in the kids park. |

| I love dogs (and so does my toddler) but I don’t want them at the playground. Just all the mixed age kids are more than enough chaos. If you’re walking your dog with your kids, please stick to the park. |
Eh, yeah - we need to rehash this because you still aren’t understanding. Your dog should not be in the playground, ever. What’s the point? I assume you aren’t letting him poop or pee where little kids will be playing and crawling so why use the playground at all? Is your dog using the swings? Climbing on the jungle-gym? Playgrounds are NOT for dogs! |
The playground I was at yesterday was at a regional park that actually has a dog park as well. Not sure why they didn’t just take the dog there. |

Our amazing nanny went on the offensive and started writing and calling the city about off leash dogs in the park and dogs in the enclosed playground. She wrote emails and sent a registered letter to the mayor! She single-handedly got the city to post signs and assign an officer to the park.
It’s a safer and cleaner park and playground now. Please don’t think there is nothing you can do about this dangerous problem. |
This is a false equivalence, playgrounds aren’t for dogs they are for children. Will some children misbehave ? Yes. But that’s completely irrelevant and unrelated to dogs being there. |
Or, you should keep your dog out of the fully fenced area for young children saying dogs aren’t alllwed. |

Some parents allow their kids to pee and poop in bushes around playground. This is just as disgusting as dogs peeing and pooping in playground. |
Ugh, people like you ruin it for the rest of us dog owners. |

I have a dog and a 5 YO and I hate uncontrolled dogs too. Sounds like you had a bad dog owner and generally selfish and unthinking person - you’ll run into those in life. To help you maybe think differently about dogs generally I’ll say this.
In the City, my husband and I would train our dogs off leash late night in DC playgrounds and parks (like after 10 am) and walk out dog late too often before bed (apartment and condo people). Can’t tell you how many homeless we would see and folks breaking into cars on the walk and all kinds of bad behavior. Only reason I get safe was bc there were lots of other dog walkers. Sure I agree no dogs on playgrounds during the day but dog owners and walkers do a lot to keep out neighborhoods safe. |
